De La Cruz will not play against LAFC . Flamengo released a press release about the Uruguayan's situation one day before the last match of the group stage. According to the club, the number 18 felt pain in his knee again during training and underwent imaging tests that did not reveal any new injury.
Flamengo on De La Cruz: "the athlete will remain under the care of Flamengo's Medical Department"
"After resuming work on the field, midfielder De La Cruz once again experienced pain in his right knee. An imaging exam carried out last Sunday (22) did not identify any new injury in the area . In the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup, the athlete will remain under the care of Flamengo 's Medical Department."
De La Cruz has yet to make his debut for Flamengo in the Club World Cup. Out of action since the draw with Botafogo in the Brazilian Championship , the Uruguayan has been out of action for over a month and is a real doubt for the team's next appearance in the international tournament.
With less than a week to go until the knockout stages begin, De La Cruz's presence in the knockout match is unlikely. Even if he is cleared by the medical department in the coming days, the Uruguayan is far from his ideal competitive rhythm — a factor that is even more critical in a decisive phase with high-intensity matches.
Meanwhile, the red-black squad continues to prepare for the duel against Los Angeles FC, in the third round of the group stage, which takes place this Tuesday (24), at 10 pm (Brasília time), in Orlando. With a place in the round of 16 already guaranteed, the game will serve to rotate the squad and adjust the team aiming at the decisive clashes of the tournament.
With first place assured, Flamengo now knows the date and location of the knockout stage: the team will take to the field on Sunday, June 29, at 5 pm (Brasília time), in Miami, for the round of 16 of the World Cup. The opponent will be Benfica (POR) and Boca Juniors (ARG) , who are competing for a spot in Group C.

An idol among Flamengo fans for his historic work between 2019 and 2020, Jorge Jesus still dreams of returning to manage Flamengo . This information was revealed by Kleber Leite, the club's former president and a personal friend of the coach. According to him, the coach would accept an offer to return to the club.
In an interview with Canal Mundo GV, hosted by former goalkeeper Getúlio Vargas, Kleber revealed that Jorge Jesus was very close to re-signing Flamengo in 2021, following Renato Gaúcho's departure. At the time, Flamengo's board traveled to Portugal to negotiate directly with the coach . A meeting was even held, but after asking for time to decide, Jesus decided to sign Paulo Sousa.
"He could have been at Flamengo a long time ago. (...) You know that story about you running to avoid getting there? Flamengo ran to avoid getting there. They didn't want to, actually, that's it. (...) I have no doubt that Jesus would accept an offer from Flamengo . Here or even with the Brazilian national team, where they also lost their chance. He was the coach at the time," declared Kleber Leite.
Jorge Jesus achieved impressive numbers with Flamengo. In 58 games, the Mais Querido under his command achieved 44 wins, 10 draws and only four losses, an 81.6% success rate . Under his command, the Rubro-Negro won the following titles: Libertadores (2019), Brazilian Championship (2019), Brazilian Super Cup (2020), Recopa Sudamericana (2020) and Campeonato Carioca (2020).
With more trophies than defeats, Jorge Jesus made his mark at Flamengo, leading the team to its peak under the brilliance of the quartet formed by Gabigol, Arrascaeta, Everton Ribeiro and Bruno Henrique and still having his name on the lips of the red-black fans.
