Matias Viña was signed by Flamengo this year, after two seasons in Europe. Despite his short time away from Brazil (he played for Palmeiras until 2021), the full-back 'unlearned' when it comes to the country's music. In an interview with 'FlaTV', given at the Ninho do Urubu Training Center, the athlete made a mistake when talking about his favorite style.
Flamengo reporter Julie Santos asked what Viña's favorite style of music in the Brazil, then, the full-back replied: “sertanejo”. Later, the journalist asked what the favorite song in this segment was. Thus, the Uruguayan chose “Let it happen”, by the samba and pagode group Revelação, making both interview participants laugh.
“I don't know if it's country music, no... But I like Felipe Araújo, Marília Mendonça, I really like her songs, but that was the first one that came to my head, so I sang it, but I don't know if it's or not”, explained Viña, visibly embarrassed by the small musical faux pas.
Since arriving at Flamengo, Viña has not yet had a run as a starter on the team. So, the full-back “let it happen naturally”, waiting for a chance in the starting 11. Even outside of the probables, the Uruguayan hopes that the “case will last forever” at Rubro-Negro, as the player will have plenty of time to prove himself. The contract with Mengão is valid until December 2028.
Viña has five games with the Flamengo shirt, but only one as a starter. The Uruguayan competes for position with Ayrton Lucas and, interestingly, the two athletes in that position returned to Mengão this Thursday (28). Both were in Europe, representing their respective teams at FIFA Data.
For Uruguay, Viña played 90 minutes last Tuesday (26), in the defeat to Ivory Coast. In the first friendly, against the Basque Country, the player didn't even leave the bench. Ayrton Lucas was a substitute and did not receive opportunities in Brazil's victory over England and the draw with Spain.

The Sinergia Rubro-Negra Group (SRN), made up of influential partners from Flamengo, held a meeting last Saturday (7), at the club's headquarters, located in Gávea. The main objective of the meeting was to promote fraternization among the participants, but, inevitably, club politics ended up dominating the discussions throughout the event.
The main topic that emerged during the meeting was the support of the SRN to Rodrigo Dunshee's candidacy for president of Flamengo. Dunshee, who currently holds the position of general and legal vice-president of the club, is a prominent figure in the red-black political scene. The group, made up of members who share an aligned vision regarding the club's management, sees in Dunshee a name prepared to take over Flamengo's leadership, especially considering the upcoming electoral cycle.
During the event, members of the SRN highlighted Dunshee's role in the current administration, remembering that he was a fundamental player in several legal achievements of the Flamengo in recent years. The group believes that his experience and proximity to the club's internal processes make him the ideal candidate to succeed current president Rodolfo Landim, whose tenure ends at the end of his term.
Although the initial objective of the meeting was a celebration between the partners, it was inevitable that the conversations turned to Flamengo's political future. The club's presidential elections are approaching, and political groups are already beginning to articulate support and strategies. The SRN, being a strong group within the red-black political structure, has stood out for its organization and capacity to mobilize members.
Those present discussed, among other topics, the possible implications of a possible Dunshee's candidacy. His name has been circulating among members for some time, but now, with the explicit support of the SRN, his candidacy is gaining strength. The members highlighted that Dunshee is a name of continuity, someone who is already part of the current management and deeply knows the challenges and needs of the club. This, in the group's view, represents a positive point, as Dunshee could continue the projects started under the Landim administration.

Flamengo continues to debate whether to look for a replacement for Pedro, a striker who is recovering from an injury. The decision is complex, involving several variables ranging from the financial cost to the availability of players on the market. One of the main points under discussion is the high cost of a possible replacement. The club is aware that signing a center forward may require a significant investment, something that needs to be carefully evaluated within the team's current budget.
In addition, Flamengofaces the challenge of downtime of players available on the market. Portugal continues to be a popular destination for young talents trained in Flamengo's youth teams. With the recent signing of Igor Jesus by Estrela Amadora, the number of players trained by Rubro-Negro who will play in the Primeira Liga and Liga Portugal 2 in the 2024/25 season has reached ten.
Crias do Flamengo in Portugal
The majority of these players, six in total, left Flamengo between 2023 and 2024. They are athletes who exceeded or were close to the under-20 age limit and found few opportunities in the main team. In search of playing time and visibility in a European league, these young people are taking advantage of their chances at Portuguese clubs.
Estrela Amadora, in particular, has been a frequent destination for Garotos do Ninho. After André Luiz's arrival in 2023, the Portuguese club continued to invest in Flamengo talent, signing Daniel Cabral, Petterson and, more recently, Igor Jesus.
Another club that has been recruiting Flamengo players is Leixões, who signed Werton and Gabriel Noga in 2024. Among those who stand out is defender Otávio, who made his move to Porto after a successful spell at Famalicão, becoming the biggest sale of a defender in the history of the Championship Portuguese.
In addition to these young players, three more experienced players are also playing in Portugal: Gabriel Batista and Rafael Santos, both at Santa Clara, and goalkeeper Thiago, who plays for Arouca FC.
