Flamengo is expecting a big financial return in the middle of the year. Wesley , a Mengão full-back, is one of the most valued players in the world in his role and could be sold in the next window. Now Chelsea , one of the red-blacks' rivals in the 2025 Club World Cup, could help the Rio de Janeiro club in negotiations to sell the number 43.

That's because Chelsea are looking to sign Barcelona right-back Jules Koundé . The Frenchman is a regular starter for the Catalan club, who have already shown interest in buying Wesley for the role in order to reduce the burden on Koundé, who has played in all 29 of Barça's La Liga matches , being in the starting 11 on 26 occasions.

If Chelsea's deal for Koundé goes through, Barcelona would have to go to the market to sign a replacement and Wesley, who is already in the club's sights, would be high on the Blaugrana's list of priorities for the right-back position. Furthermore, with the amount that Barça would receive, Flamengo would have an advantage to increase its asking price in the negotiation.

Wesley expected to be sold in mid-year window

Flamengo is certain that it will not be able to keep Wesley on the team after the Club World Cup. The full-back has seen a significant increase in production since the 2024 season and is seen as the club's next big-money signing. Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, believes that Mengão could receive around 40 million euros ( R$240 million ) for the number 43.

With Wesley an absolute starter at right-back, Flamengo will go to Venezuela to face Deportivo Táchira on Thursday (3), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time) in their debut in the Copa Libertadores da América 2025.
