After a surprising defeat to Zumbi, by Alagoas, last Wednesday (8), Flamengo will decide the last classified in Group 23 of the Copa São Paulo against São Bernardo-SP, next Saturday. And Rubro-Negro faces simple mathematics for front to guarantee a space between the teams classified for the second phase, which corresponds to the first stage of the knockout stage and comprises 64 teams.
Currently, Group 23 has Zumbi in first place, with six pointsand already classified for the second phase. Before beating Flamengo 2-1, the Alagoas team debuted with a 2-0 victory over São Bernardo. Thus, it is one of the 35 teams guaranteed in the knockout stage.
Rubro-Negro, who opened the competition with a 5-0 victory over Cruzeiro-PB, is playing for two different results against São Bernardo. In case of victory, Flamengo would have six points and could still reach the top of the group. For that, however, Zumbi would need to lose to Cruzeiro in the last round.
A draw with São Bernardo could also serve Flamengo. With that, the team would go to four points and keep an eye on Cruzeiro. To eliminate Rubro-Negro, the Paraíba team would have to beat leader Zumbi by nine goals. Thus, they would qualify in the third tiebreaker criterion, goals scored.
In case you miss it for São Bernardo, however, Flamengo will be eliminated from the 2025 edition of the Copinha. The São Paulo team would have four points and leave Rubro-Negro with three, in third place. In this scenario, a simple victory for Cruzeiro over Zumbi would still relegate Mais Querido to last place in the group.
