The Federal District Court has indicted striker Bruno Henrique and his brother, Wander Nunes Pinto Júnior , for alleged participation in a sports betting manipulation scheme . The decision, handed down this Friday (25), was made by Judge Fernando Brandini Barbagalo, of the 7th Criminal Court of Brasília.
According to the Federal District Public Prosecutor's Office, Bruno Henrique deliberately forced a yellow card during the match against Santos, held in November 2023, at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília. The prosecution alleges that Wander, the player's brother, encouraged the practice and passed the information to bettors who would profit from the premeditated play.
The judge dismissed the fraud charge and did not impose any precautionary measures on the defendants, such as bail or passport retention. The case remains pending in the criminal court , with no trial date yet set. Last Monday (21), the attacker's habeas corpus petition was rejected by the Superior Court of Justice.
In addition to the lawsuit, Bruno Henrique is also the target of a parallel investigation at the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) , which could impose penalties such as suspension and fines. However, the striker continues to play normally for Flamengo , which reinforces its support for the player based on the principle of the presumption of innocence.
Even before the formal acceptance of the complaint, Bruno Henrique's lawyers issued a statement strongly refuting the accusation. The defense described the MPDFT's complaint as " entirely unsubstantiated " and "manifestly opportunistic," suggesting an opportunistic motive, as it was presented on the same day the list of registered players for the FIFA Super Club World Cup was released—with Bruno Henrique among those called up.
"The complaint filed by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MPFDT), besides being entirely unsubstantiated, is clearly opportunistic, given the context in which it was filed , coincidentally on the same date that the list of players registered for the FIFA Super Club World Cup, which includes Mr. Bruno Henrique, was released. Although the ministerial body's measure is opportunistic, its defense clarifies that the unwarranted accusations made will be technically and immediately refuted in the proceedings."
Victory over Internacional in the Libertadores puts Mengão above the main teams in European football, such as the Spanish team and the French champions.
