The time for decision has come. This Thursday (25), Flamengo visits Estudiantes , in La Plata, seeking to confirm qualification for the Libertadores semifinal . Rubro-Negro has not reached this stage since 2022, when it won the continental title.
With just one absence, coach Eduardo Domínguez will have a full complement of players at his disposal . The likely Estudiantes lineup includes: Muslera; Gómez, Nuñez, Rodríguez, Arzamendía; Benedetti, Amondarain, Medina; Tiago Palacios, Guido Carrillo, and Facu Farías.
The Argentine team's track record isn't favorable. After losing the first leg, Estudiantes only managed to come back from a Copa Libertadores knockout stage once : in 1968, the year of their first title. Since then, every time they've had to come back from behind, they've been eliminated.
Chilean Piero Maza will referee the match. In the first leg, Colombian Andrés Rojas was heavily criticized for favoring Estudiantes with controversial decisions that hurt Flamengo . The suspicion is heightened because Piero Maza was responsible for awarding a dubious penalty in favor of the Argentines in the round of 16. The goal ended up being decisive for the team's qualification.
In addition to the refereeing, Flamengo will have to deal with pressure from rival fans. Tickets for Estudiantes fans sold out on September 18th , a week in advance. Tickets weren't even open to the general public—only members were guaranteed a seat in the stadium. The atmosphere promises to be one of total support for the Argentine team, which will take the field "with blood in its eyes" trying to turn the tables.

Flamengo takes to the field this Thursday (25) to seek qualification for the Libertadores semifinals . The opponent is Estudiantes (ARG), in La Plata, for the second leg of the quarterfinals. The match will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN (pay TV) and Disney+ (streaming).
Flamengo , coached by Filipe Luís, has two confirmed absences against Estudiantes: Erick Pulgar is still recovering from surgery on his right foot after a fracture in the fifth metatarsal, while Michael is out due to pain in his left ankle.
The Argentine team, led by Eduardo Domínguez, is in better shape at home, with only one absence : Leandro González, who is injured in his right thigh. Santiago Núñez and Gonzálo Pírez, who were absent from the first leg, will return for the second leg.
With the absences and the players available, the tendency is for coach Filipe Luís to send onto the field a Flamengo with: Rossi; Varela, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira and Ayrton Lucas (Alex Sandro); Jorginho, Saúl Ñíguez and Arrascaeta; Gonzalo Plata, Samuel Lino and Pedro.
With a 2-1 victory in the first leg at Maracanã, Flamengo needs a draw to advance to the semifinals . Estudiantes, on the other hand, needs to win by two goals to eliminate the Red-Blacks. If Argentina wins by one goal, the match will go to penalties.

On the eve of the Copa Libertadores semifinals final , Flamengo is in great form as they face Estudiantes. Journalist Milly Lacombe believes there's a clear favorite in the match, but also a significant warning for Filipe Luís's team .
Milly Lacombe on Flamengo against Estudiantes: "It's very difficult to leave there with a stumble"
Rubro-Negro maintains its lead in the Brasileirão and has maintained an unbeaten streak of nearly two months . The last loss was on July 31st, against Atlético-MG, in the Copa do Brasil. Since then, they have played 11 matches, with eight wins and three draws (all 1-1, against Ceará, Grêmio, and Vasco).
Given this performance, Milly considers Flamengo to be far superior to their Argentine opponents: "Flamengo, being emotionally cohesive, is very difficult to come away with a setback. Estudiantes is a much weaker team . In fact, as are almost all teams that face Flamengo ," she assessed during the UOL News program.
Despite being the favorite, Milly emphasized that the 2-1 lead from the first leg still requires attention: " Flamengo has a lead. It's not a solid one, but it's a lead . They can, of course, come up with a game plan that surprises Flamengo."
The return match between Estudiantes and Flamengo takes place this Thursday (25), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), in La Plata. Mais Querido advances with a draw , while the Argentines need to win by two goals to qualify.

Coach Filipe Luís remains without Erick Pulgar, who is recovering from a broken foot suffered during the Club World Cup against Bayern Munich. The Chilean underwent surgery and has already begun physical therapy, but he is not yet ready to return. Another absence is Michael , ruled out after experiencing pain in his left ankle. The striker did not even travel to Argentina, despite not being among the coach's top options recently.
While there are some absences, Filipe Luís has an important reinforcement: the return of Jorginho. The midfielder, out of action for exactly a month, is expected to return to the starting lineup this Thursday . Confirmation will only be made at the national team's pre-match training session, but he's expected to start.

On the bench, options like Emerson Royal, Danilo, and Alex Sandro, recently recovered from injury, expand the defensive lineup . Up front, Juninho returns, making his first appearance since August 6 against Atlético-MG.
Kickoff begins at 9:30 PM (Brasília time) at Jorge Luis Hirschi Stadium in La Plata. After winning the first leg 2-1 at Maracanã, Flamengo needs a draw to advance . Estudiantes only needs to win by two goals to secure their spot.
