O Flamengo made official this Wednesday (15) the signing of striker Juninho, who was in the Qarabag, from Azerbaijan. The 28-year-old player signed a contract until the end of 2028 and arrives as the club's first reinforcement for the 2025 season. Juninho will wear the number 23 shirt at Mengão.
Natural from Pitangui, in Minas Gerais, Álvio Vieira dos Santos Júnior, better known as Juninho, began his career in football by Athletico-PR. Prominent in the youth categories, the striker played for several Brazilian clubs on loan before moving definitively to European football.
At Chaves, in Portugal, Juninho drew attention for his decision-making power and, in 2023, was hired by Qarabag. In the last two seasons, the striker played in 80 matches for the Azeri team, scoring 42 goals, which aroused the interest of Rubro-Negro.
CHALLENGES AND OBJECTIVES DE JUNINHO AT FLAMENGO
Now on Flamengo, Juninho will have a calendar full of important commitments ahead of him. In 2025, the CRF will compete in the Campeonato Carioca, Supercopa, Libertadores da América, Copa do Brasil, Brasileirão and the long-awaited FIFA Club World Cup.
The striker has already taken his first steps at the new club. This Wednesday (10), he was at Ninho do Urubu, where he participated in internal activities and began his adaptation to the red-black environment. The expectation is that he will be available to the coach soon.
NEXT STEPS
Juninho should have his name at the IDB by Friday. The athlete has been doing physical work at the club and initially will not go to the United States to play in the friendly against São Paulo nor will he play for Carioca. The tendency is for the athlete to be integrated into the group on Monday (20).

Officially unveiled this Monday wearing the number 15 jersey, Jorge Carrascal arrived at the club with high expectations. Coming from Dynamo Moscow, the Colombian was considered a potential replacement for Arrascaeta , but he refuted the idea of a rivalry with the Uruguayan, a regular starter since 2019. In his first interview, Carrascal emphasized the importance of teamwork.
" It's not about competition, that I will be his replacement , that I will not be his replacement. I came to Flamengo with the purpose of working, of competing, of trying to achieve the best for the club, the clear objectives that it has in the short term this season," the player declared.
Besides rejecting any kind of competition for position, Carrascal praised his teammate's quality. " Arrascaeta has a unique game. He's a great player. We've known Arrascaeta for many years, based on his abilities. He's a different player," he stated.
Carrascal wants to show his versatility at Flamengo: "Position is not a problem"
Demonstrating commitment, the midfielder also highlighted his tactical versatility, showing a willingness to play in different areas of the field, depending on the coach's needs. " I really enjoy moving around the field , I try to make whatever the coach asks of me work. In the middle, on the outside, as a number eight. Position isn't a problem. I'll try to do my best," he added.
Carrascal hasn't played an official match since May 24th, when he left the Russian club. However, the athlete stated that he maintained his physical preparation during the vacation period. Flamengo 's staff also expresses confidence in his athletic condition, which should accelerate his integration into the main squad in upcoming matches.

Flamengo hosts Mirassol on August 9th, at 6:30 pm , at Maracanã, for the 19th round of the Brazilian Championship . The expectation is a full house, and the club has already made available detailed information about ticket sales for the match, which starts this Sunday (4).
Fan club members have early access and exclusive pricing, depending on their plan and star rating. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on August 6th at 10 a.m. on the club's official platform. Expecting a large crowd at Maracanã, Flamengo is banking on the strength of the nation to remain firmly in the fight for the top spots in the Brasileirão. Mengão leads the championship with 37 points.
Even with Mengão's desire to repatriate the midfielder, the player is showing signs that he intends to stay in Europe, while West Ham is stipulating a millionaire value.

To cap off a busy transfer window led by José Boto, Flamengo is still dreaming of the return of Lucas Paquetá. A product of the club's youth academy, the player has a strong connection with the club, which is seeking to emotionally connect him with a potential return to Rio de Janeiro.
However, the path to this goal isn't straightforward. Lucas Paquetá remains highly valued in European football, and his name was recently linked with a potential trade deal involving Jack Grealish , which would see the Brazilian join Pep Guardiola's Manchester City squad. The deal, while uncertain, demonstrates how highly regarded the player remains on the Old Continent.
On Monday (4), new information emerged about Paquetá's position . According to international media outlets, the player, recently cleared of charges of involvement in sports betting manipulation, is determined to prioritize staying in Europe.
Lucas Paquetá is currently linked to West Ham , where he plays regularly. Despite interest from several clubs around the world, the English team is cautious and is only willing to sell him if a minimum offer of €60 million is reached, which is equivalent to approximately R$382.1 million at the current exchange rate.
The athlete's stance represents a disappointment for Flamengo 's plans, which saw Paquetá as the perfect signing to round out the squad led by Filipe Luís. Despite this, the Rio de Janeiro club continues to monitor the situation and maintains hopes , albeit remote, of facilitating the 27-year-old's return to Brazilian football.
