The project to sell captive chairs for future estadio do Flamengo, located in the Gasologista area, will be reviewed by the management ofLuiz Eduardo Baptista, the Bap. According to information from journalist Rodrigo Mattos, the new administration does not agree with the estimates of the previous administration, led by Rodolfo Landim, which expected to raise around R$150 million with the initiative.
Landim management planning
In the model presented by Landim, 1,000 captive chairs would be made available, with a starting price of R$150,000 each. The sale would be made through an auction system, called book building, developed in partnership with a bank in São Paulo. In this format, the highest offers would prevail, and the thousand most valuable proposals would be accepted.
The objective was to use the proceeds to replenish the club's cash flow, covering the expenditure of R$ 138 million with the purchase of land. The expectation was that the resources would arrive at the beginning of 2025, forming part of the annual budget planned by the Landim administration.
“The idea was to separate the accounts from the land, from the football and the club in general. Landim wanted to return to the club the money invested in purchasing the land with this sale of the captives”, explained Rodrigo Mattos .
Changing planes with Bap
As soon as he assumed the presidency for the three-year period 2025-2027, Bap canceled the agreement with the bank responsible for the project. According to the journalist, the new board believes that the planning was not well founded, mainly due to the uncertainty surrounding the construction of the stadium.
“The current management understands that the project is not good, that it was not well designed and that It didn’t make sense from an economic point of view. The stadium is not even built yet, and there was no adequate pricing at the moment”, Mattos pointed out.
Financial impact
The decision generated a discrepancy of approximately R$ 150 million in the initial budget foreseen by the previous administration. Landim's thesis was that there would be great interest in captive seats, considering the high demand for tickets and products related to the Flamengo.
On the other hand, Bap's management prefers to adopt a more conservative approach, awaiting progress in the project of the stadium to define fundraising strategies.
Next steps
Construction of the stadium in Gasologista is still in its initial phase, and new proposals to finance the project must be evaluated. The expectation is that Flamengo will continue to look for ways to maintain financial balance while developing its own stadium project, considered a milestone in the club's history.
