The Brazilian National Team will have six changes in the starting lineup for the match against Argentina , this Tuesday (25), at 9 pm (Brasília time), at Monumental de Núñez , in Buenos Aires . Coach Dorival Júnior confirmed that Wesley, from Flamengo, will be a starter. In addition, the coach stated that four changes will be forced due to absences, while two occur due to technical choice.
Changes in the starting lineup
Alisson and Gerson , who are out due to injury, are leaving the team, as are Gabriel Magalhães and Bruno Guimarães , who are suspended. Vanderson and João Pedro will lose their places due to Dorival's choice.
With that, Brazil will take to the field for the duel against Argentina with: Bento, Wesley , Marquinhos, Murillo and Guilherme Arana; André, Joelinton and Raphinha; Vini, Rodrygo and Matheus Cunha.
The lineup was tested in Sunday's training session, where Savinho was even used among the starters. However, Dorival confirmed that Matheus Cunha will be chosen to start the game.
Dorival explains choices
In a press conference, the coach highlighted the need for changes and demonstrated confidence in the team:
"We have four necessary changes that have already been defined. We are making two for the opening of the match. Matheus Cunha is taking João's ( Pedro ) place and Wesley is taking Vanderson 's place. The others were due to losses we had in the last match. With six possible changes, I am sure that we will have a team that will be prepared to play a great game against a great opponent that deserves all our respect," declared the Brazil coach.
Dorival also commented on the entry of Wesley , from Flamengo , on the side:
"Wesley is in a process of evolution. Vanderson played a good game, he marked one of the most dangerous players in world football . He had great duels with them. When Wesley came in, we won a little more because Vanderson exhausted himself a little more due to his great passes and good duels. I hope Wesley can reach the same level he showed at Flamengo. His performance, his freedom of movement. Argentina doesn't have a fixed player in that position", concluded Dorival.
The team enters the field looking for a victory to establish itself in the Qualifiers against Argentina, the leader of the competition, in one of the most anticipated clashes of the competition.

Bahia's 2-1 defeat to Cruzeiro last Monday (15) represented not only the Celeste's turnaround at Fonte Nova, but also the end of a taboo. This is because the Bahian team was undefeated as home team in the Brasileirão. Now, only Flamengo and Mirassol remain unbeaten at home in this edition of the competition .
Bahia opened the scoring with a beautiful strike from Flamengo product Jean Lucas, but Cruzeiro responded with goals from Sinisterra and Gabigol. The result marked the Tricolor's first home defeat after a ten-game unbeaten run .
With Bahia's relegation, Flamengo now carries the exclusive title alongside Mirassol. The league leader, Flamengo, has played 12 home games, winning nine and drawing three . Their last loss at Maracanã came on July 31st, to Atlético-MG, in the Copa do Brasil. On that occasion, the Rio de Janeiro team was superior but was ultimately punished for a mistake in the clearance.
Mirassol , a major surprise in the 2025 Brasileirão, also remains undefeated at home. They've played 10 games, winning six and drawing four , demonstrating that the interior of São Paulo has become one of the most difficult places to earn points.
Flamengo's next match will also be at home, but for the Copa Libertadores. Rubro-Negro faces Estudiantes (ARG) this Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, for the first leg of the quarterfinals.
The Rio de Janeiro club is preparing early negotiations to extend Arrascaeta's contract, which runs until 2026, as a way to reward the number 10's performance and dedication.

Even with a contract valid until December 2026, Flamengo intends to start in the next few days Negotiations to renew Arrascaeta's contract are underway. In an interview with "UOL Esporte," director José Boto revealed that he will contact the player's representatives for a "more serious conversation" about extending his contract, following initial contact in the first half of the year.

This isn't the case with Arrascaeta, but the Portuguese director explained that the early negotiation is a "reward" for the midfielder's performance and commitment to the club.

For Boto, the number 10 stands out not only on the field but also off it. "He's one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave because of the work he does. That's the kind of player we want at Flamengo. When they have this attitude, players are rewarded . That's what will happen with Arrascaeta, probably with a renewal before the due date," the director added.
In recent months, Flamengo has prioritized players with contracts that expire in December 2025. Cases like Erick Pulgar, who extended his contract until December 2028 , and Guillermo Varela, who extended his contract until December 2027 in August, reinforce this policy. The early negotiation with Arrascaeta, therefore, demonstrates the Uruguayan's importance to the squad.
Imperador had a good time in Italy, but he doesn't hide that the decision to leave Mengão was a wrong one on his part.

A longtime Flamengo idol, Adriano Imperador made history in 2009 by leading the team to the Brazilian Championship title. However, after the successful season, the striker left the club to join Roma (ITA) in 2010. Today, the former player recognizes that the decision wasn't the best of his career.

Revealed in Flamengo 's youth academy, Adriano made his professional debut in 2000 and transferred to Inter Milan in 2001. His return to Rubro-Negro took place in 2009, with a huge impact: decisive goals, idolatry and the national title.
In total, adding up both spells, the striker played 92 matches, scored 45 goals and won the 2009 Brasileirão and the 2001 Carioca , establishing himself as one of the greatest idols in the club's history and is still in the fans' imagination.
While Adriano now follows as a fan, Flamengo returns to the field this Thursday (18) to face Estudiantes (ARG) , at Maracanã, for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores. The match will be broadcast by ESPN (pay TV) and Disney+ (streaming), starting at 9:30 pm (Brasília time).
