Former player Léo Medeiros, two-time state champion for Flamengo, achieved a new achievement, this time off the field. At the age of 43, he was elected mayor of Recreio, a city located in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais. Affiliated to the Workers' Party (PT), Medeiros won the dispute by just 156 votes, totaling 51.16% of the valid votes (3,430 in total), against 48.84% of his opponent, Dilson Coimbra (Republicans), who he received 3,274 votes.
Natural from Recreio, Léo Medeiros built a solid career in football. He arrived at Mengão in 2006, after standing out at Ipatinga under the command of coach Ney Franco. Defending the CRF until 2008, Medeiros won the Campeonato Carioca in 2007 and 2008.
After this spell, he was loaned to Athletico-PR and later traded to Bahia in 2009. In 2010, he returned to the Rio club, but made just one appearance before returning to Ipatinga. After that, he played for smaller clubs until retiring from playing in 2014.
NEW CHALLENGE AS MAYOR
Léo Medeiros, who will take over as mayor of Recreio in January 2025, formed a ticket with Dr. Fernando Coimbra, his 80-year-old deputy, also affiliated with the PT. The former player's mandate will extend until December 2028. The new mayor declared to the Electoral Court assets worth R$ 1,311,662.19, revealing his planning and preparation for public life.

While Léo Medeiros was successful at the polls, other football names who tried to launch themselves into politics in 2024, such as leaders Marcos Braz and Cacau Cotta, failed to be elected. The encouragement served as fuel for a great performance: " Rossi sent me a message before the game to reassure me. I was able to put into practice what he and the goalkeeping coach, André, had said. We did a very detailed study and, thank God, I was able to be decisive," he said.
Emotional after the match, Nannetti highlighted the importance of the moment he experienced and the trajectory he built at the club: "It's wonderful to win this title so young alongside my brothers. I've been at Flamengo since 2016. Winning a World Cup with them is unforgettable," he declared.
With solid performances, the goalkeeper confirms his status as a promising young player. He has made 17 official appearances in 2025 and has established himself as one of the most promising players of the 2007 generation.
While the young goalkeeper celebrates, the professional team prepares to face Vitória this Monday (25), at 9 pm (Brasília time) , at Maracanã. More than 35 thousand tickets have already been sold, and the expectation is that the audience will exceed 50 thousand fans.
