With a solid defense, led by players like Léo Pereira, and a powerful attack, the Rio team is one of the favorites in all the competitions it competes in. While the spotlight turns to the call-up of the Brazilian national team, Pereira and his teammates remain focused on their responsibilities at the club, aware that individual and collective success are inseparable. The future holds challenges and opportunities, and Flamengo, with its consistent defense and high ambitions, is prepared to face them head-on.LÉO PEREIRA THE SHERIFF OF THE NATION
Since the start of the season, Flamengo led by Tite has stood out not only for its offensive power, but also for its solid defense. In 20 games played so far, the Rio team conceded just 11 goals, showing an impressive average of just 0.55 goals per game. This defensive consistency has been fundamental to the positive results of the team, which has remained unbeaten for eight games and has accumulated a sequence of clean sheets.
Within this context, one of the names that has stood out is defender Léo Pereira. Present in 17 of the 20 matches played by Flamengo, Pereira has been a key player in the team's defensive system. His solid and consistent performance has contributed significantly to the team's defensive solidity, being one of the reasons for the low number of goals conceded. In addition to his success on the field, Léo Pereira harbors the dream of representing the Brazilian national team.
With With his first call-up under the command of Dorival Júnior approaching, the defender hopes to be remembered for his performance at Flamengo. In an interview with the Goat channel, Pereira expressed his desire to be called up, but highlighted that his main focus is on the red-black club. He recognizes the importance of maintaining his performance at a high level for Flamengo, confident that his work will be recognized by the national team's technical bodies.
The recent pre-season in the United States also brought reasons for optimism for Flamengo. Even with the alternative team on the field, the performance was positive, highlighting the victory against Philadelphia Union and the draw against Orlando City. Although he conceded a goal in the draw against Nova Iguaçu, this single setback does not obscure the favorable results obtained during his stay in North America. Uruguayan gave a press conference at Ninho do Urubu and spoke about the problems of unprepared professionals at the club
16 Ago 2025 | 19:00 |
Friday (15) was marked by a press conference with Arrascaeta, at Ninho do Urubu. The Uruguayan midfielder made strong statements about the club's backstage and even repeated a famous phrase from Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach who marked an era at Flamengo.
Arrascaeta quotes Jorge Jesus: "Flamengo only loses to itself"
Without directly mentioning the coach, Arrascaeta emphasized that internal problems often harm the club's atmosphere . The Uruguayan also made it clear that he will always stand by his teammates in situations where unprepared professionals could harm them:
"I often tell my friends that Flamengo only loses to itself, because it's difficult to explain some of the things that happen here. Sometimes it's due to a lack of capacity from people who don't realize the size of the club or who aren't used to dealing with this pressure . But when you have experienced and respected players like Alex Sandro, Bruno, Nico, Viña, and so many others, the group becomes stronger," said the number 10.
"Whatever happens outside won't affect our squad. We'll always be together. When something happens to a teammate, we'll be here to help," Arrascaeta assured. The statement alludes to the controversy surrounding former doctor José Luiz Runco, who was fired after exposing details of De La Cruz's physical condition , claiming the Uruguayan was living with an irreversible chronic injury.
At the time, Arrascaeta posted a photo alongside De La Cruz, accompanied by the message: " It's about taking care of our own. It's that simple ." The gesture was interpreted as a dig at the former professional, as well as a pat on the back for his club and national team friend.
Now, at the press conference, the number 10 reinforced the importance of squad unity in the face of external turbulence: "Regardless of who it is, Nico or another player, we have to be together. It's very difficult to stay focused on the field when these situations happen. But I've been here for six years and I know that Flamengo always experiences moments like this. Our role is to keep ourselves in the locker room so that this doesn't affect us, even though some situations are very difficult," he concluded.
