Edmundo, one of the great center forwards in the history of Brazilian football and Vasco's idol, had a discreet spell at Flamengo, despite the high expectations surrounding his arrival at the club. On his YouTube channel, the former player recalled how he went to Flamengo after a successful career at Palmeiras, which came to an end due to high costs, at which point Flamengo made an attractive proposal.

“No Palmeiras I was paid by the investor, Parmalat. But, I started to get expensive. In 1995, the year I went to Flamengo, it was the worst year for Palmeiras/Parmalat in Brazil in terms of investments and achievements. Flamengo appeared in the form of Kleber Leite, he told me a story and I ended up going”, revealed Edmundo.

About his brief stay at Flamengo, Edmundo stated that he regrets it, although he has no resentment against the club. He highlighted that the experience was not successful due to problems in the "project" in which he was involved.

“It was the worst decision I made in my life. Nothing against the club, Flamengo, but, yes, with the people. They weren't nice to me. It wasn't against my will, it was a matter of moment, occasion. p>Edmundo apologizes to Vasco fans for playing for Flamengo

Considered one of Vasco's greatest idols, Edmundo left Flamengo amid a troubled spell and soon transferred to the Rio rival In his video, the former player also mentioned that some people within Flamengo were "mean" to him, taking advantage of the moment to apologize to the Vasco fans for his brief stay at the red-black club.

“I have nothing against the Institution, it didn't do anything to me, but people were very bad to me. Then I went to Vasco, I created my relationship with Vasco. It's part of life and you have to continue. If Vasco fans are bothered, I apologize”, said the 'animal'.

During the period he was at Flamengo, Edmundo played 23 games and scored nine goals, remaining at the club for just four months .

The dispute between Internacional and Flamengo over Thiago Maia's debt has entered a new chapter. According to information released by journalist Venê Casagrande, the Rio Grande do Sul club suffered another defeat at the National Chamber for Dispute Resolution (CNRD) , after having its "request for clarification" denied.

According to Venê Casagrande, Colorado still has the option of appealing to the Arbitration Chamber . However, this procedure is often costly and, in most cases, does not change decisions already made by the CNRD. Therefore, Flamengo is closely monitoring the case's developments and hopes to receive the amounts owed directly from Internacional.

The decision requires Internacional to pay €1,472,588.33 (approximately R$9 million at the current exchange rate) for the breach of contract involving Thiago Maia. In addition, the Rio Grande do Sul club must pay R$51,211.99 in legal costs.

NEGOTIATION WITH SANTOS

Back in 2025, during a transfer window, Santos tried to sign Thiago Maia . However, the deal ended up not moving forward precisely because of this legal dispute between Internacional and Flamengo .

The change in approach was accompanied by results . After a positive transfer window, in which he sought to fulfill coach Filipe Luís's main requests, the manager also managed to calm internal friction.
