Venezuelan Alexis Herrera, 34, will take charge of Mengão's fourth game in the Libertadores since 2020

Conmebol has defined the refereeing team for the match between Bolivar and Flamengo, on April 24, at the altitude of La Paz, for the third round of the group stage of the Libertadores de América 2024. The game will be led by Venezuelan Alexis Herrera , 34 years old. Playing in the continental competition since 2018, Herrera played in three Flamengo matches during the period.

In 2020, Alexis Herrera was selected to referee the first match of the round of 16 between Flamengo and Racing, at El Cilindro, in Buenos Aires. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the game had no audience, but it was quite busy in terms of refereeing actions. Three goals were disallowed and two Rubro-Negros players were sent off.

Defender Thuler was sent off in the 37th minute of the second half for a violent tackle on Lisandro Lopez. Herrera needed VAR to turn the yellow card into a red one. To make matters worse, defender Natan was expelled from the bench due to a complaint. On the field, Racing had two goals disallowed and Fla had one goal disallowed. In the end, a 1-1 draw, which was repeated at Maracanã and Rubro-Negro ended up eliminated on penalties.

In the match against the Liga Deportiva Universitária de Quito, in the group stage of the Libertadores 2021, Alexis Herrera once again showed himself strict with a Flamengo player. William Arão was sent off 15 minutes into the first half for a harsh tackle on Amarilla. With one down for almost the entire game, Rubro-Negro had to settle for a 2-2 draw. In addition to these games, Herrera worked on Flamego's 2-1 victory over Sporting Cristal, at Maracanã, in 2022 .

In the current edition of the Copa Libertadores, Venezuelan Alexis Herrera refereed three matches. The most recent was Talleres' 2-1 victory over São Paulo, in Córdoba, in the first round of the group stage. In that game, Alexis scored 22 fouls and received six yellow cards, four for the Argentine team and two for the São Paulo team.

Assistants Tulio Moreno and Lubin Torrealba also work in Bolivar x Flamengo. VAR will be the responsibility of Silvio Trucco. Rubro-Negro will arrive in La Paz with four points from two games. A draw with the group leader, who has seven points, will be a good result, but facing the 3600 meters altitude will be the main challenge for Fla.

In a press conference at Ninho do Urubu, goalkeeper Agustín Rossi spoke about his desire to be called up to the Argentina national team , the current world champion. Despite his dream, the goalkeeper made it clear that his priority remains Flamengo.

TOTAL FOCUS ON FLAMENGO

The Argentine stressed that he keeps his feet on the ground and that his main goal is to continue showing consistency for the Rubro-Negro , who have the best defense in the Brasileirão, conceding only 10 goals in 22 games. At Maracanã, the Mais Querido conceded only three goals.

"I'm in no rush, because my job is for Flamengo , day to day, game to game. My biggest focus is to maintain this streak so that the call-up can come. Of course I have that desire, but I don't treat it as a requirement . I'm Flamengo's goalkeeper, I'm responsible for Flamengo. If the call-up comes, I'll welcome it," he added.

Since joining Flamengo in 2023, Rossi has already won four titles. Last season, he was a key player in the undefeated Carioca Championship and also played in the Copa do Brasil victory. In 2025, he maintained his starting spot in the Supercopa do Brasil and the Campeonato Estadual . In total, he has represented Flamengo in 125 official matches, establishing himself as a pillar of the team.
