On the night of this Wednesday (05), Flamengo entered the field and, at the turn, beat Athetico-PR, by 2 to 1, with goals from Pedro and Bruno Henrique, in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup. With the victory, Rubro-negro goes to the return match, on July 12, at Arena da Baixada, with an advantage on the scoreboard.

Summary

The initial step was defined by efficiency. Athletico entered the match to close and try to play with long balls and put the ball in the net with Canobbio in the only big chance they had. Flamengo had the ball most of the time, but failed to turn it into great opportunities, they only had two, one from a free kick by Arrascaeta and another by a header by Pulgar, the only one on the team in the direction of the goal, easily defended by Bento.

The hosts returned at a faster pace, using possession of the ball to pose more danger. After 8 minutes, Arrascaeta suffered a penalty from Madson, which Pedro charged to open the scoring. The turnaround also came from a dead ball. Arrascaeta lifted the ball in the area with a free kick, and Bruno Henrique beat Fernandinho high up to head past Bento and secure the comeback. The Atleticanos, who spent most of the game closed, avoided opening up to avoid conceding a third goal.

Flamengo returns to the field next Saturday, but for the Brasileirão. In this sense, there is a national classic against Palmeiras, in a 6-point game for staying in the G4 and getting closer to leader Botafogo. The match takes place at Alianz Parque at 9 pm.

Flamengo will have an important reinforcement for the duel this Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. Defender Léo Ortiz returns to the starting lineup after serving an automatic suspension in the Brasileirão and is confirmed for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals against Estudiantes.

In addition to Léo Ortiz , other players are available again for Filipe Luís , including Varela and Bruno Henrique, who were rested against Juventude. Alex Sandro and Jorginho, on the other hand, remain doubtful and will have their fitness assessed shortly before the match.
