STUDY POINTS OUT REASONS FOR THE POOR STATE OF THE MARACANÃ GRAMADO

Too many games, shade on the lawn and players warming up are some of the reasons that punish Maraca's lawn

The Maracanã pitch has faced quality problems throughout the season due to several factors. A report by agronomist engineer Maristela Kuhn, hired to analyze the situation on the field, pointed out three main problems that have affected the quality of the grass.

The first was the new cover made for the World Cup , which is larger than the previous one, causes shading in part of the field, especially in the North goal area, where there is little sun. The second reason is already more obvious: the high number of games in a short period of time, especially in the months of April, May and September. The ideal recommendation would be 4 to 6 games per month to maintain the quality of the field, however, in some periods, this number reaches 12 games in a month.

Lastly, the warm-ups carried out by the teams in the field before matches also contribute to grass wear. Intense activity from multiple players during warm-up, especially the passing wheels, causes turf traction and wear and tear. CBF regulations provide for warm-ups on the field for 50 minutes before the game, and Conmebol also requires this activity. The stadium's administration has sought to reduce the warm-up, but the rules have not been changed so far.

In addition, the climate of Rio de Janeiro influences the situation. In the summer, the winter grass (ryegrass) suffers from the heat, and in the winter, the summer grass (Bermuda) does not develop well due to the lower temperatures.

To deal with these problems, the stadium replants the grass after the games, however, the accumulation of games and intense activities have made it difficult to properly recover the lawn. The report also indicates that team warm-ups should be done in alternative areas, such as outdoor lawns or places with synthetic grass, to preserve the main field.

Due to these problems, the Maracanã stadium will be closed for 20 days until the final of the Copa do Brasil to recover the field and improve its quality. Stadium management is looking for ways to reconcile the high number of games and activities with proper lawn maintenance, including a more balanced distribution of games throughout the year.

Next Monday (5), the Deliberative Council of Flamengo will have a meeting to vote on the creation of a company alongside Fluminense. The idea of Mais Querido is to have a partnership with the Laranjeiras team to manage the Maracanã complex for the next 20 years.

It is worth remembering that the Fluminense partners already approved the partnership last Monday (29 ). In other words, all that remains is Mais Querido approve the creation of the company to have the contract signed with the State of Rio de Janeiro. Voting will be held at 7pm.

FLAMENGO WILL COMMAND A MAJOR PART OF THE COMPANY

Mais Querido will hold 65% of Fla-Flu Serviços S.A., leaving Fluminense with 35%. The difference respects the rival's ability to fulfill the investments promised in the bidding process. After all, R$ 393 million is planned for works and maintenance of the Maracanã.

Also highlighting that the difference in percentage, therefore, also occurs in profits, such as revenues not related to matches at Maracanã, rental for events, sale of boxes, collection from parking and stadium tour. In the case of duels, the income belongs to the principal, that is, Flamengo or Fluminense.

The new company is a Specific Purpose Company (SPE), with established governance. Each club may nominate three members to the board of directors. Furthermore, Mais Querido will have the right to choose the president of the board of directors and the financial director of Fla-Flu Serviços. Fluminense will be able to choose its commercial director.
