The union of the national passions of beer and football is part of Brazilian culture. Imagine scoring a goal for a country that isn't yours, becoming a national hero and receiving an unusual gift: "beer for life." That was the award that Roger Guerreiro, ex-Flamengo, received on June 12, 2008, when the first goal in Poland's history in European Championships came from his left foot.

If today the national team The Polish country is an established figure in the Euros and is competing for the fifth consecutive edition, 16 years ago the country debuted in the competition. The debut was a defeat to Germany, but in the next game, against Austria, Roger made history. And this Friday, the day of another Poland x Austria in the European Championship, the Brazilian relives the event with laughter.

- That's exactly what happened. It was a surprise, no one knew. I played the second half of the game against Germany, in the debut, and we lost 2-0. In the next half, I score that goal, we take the lead, and in the end Austria draws. After the game, people from the federation came to tell me that there was already an agreement that the sponsors would give the scorer of Poland's first goal a lifetime of beer - said Roger Guerreiro, who had become a naturalized Polish citizen two months before the start of Euro 2008.

- I could drink beer for the rest of my life, but I don't know exactly what the logistics would be like because, as I don't drink, I wasn't even interested in the details. I already mentioned that I don't drink, and there was an uproar: "Wow, for the guy who doesn't drink." I gave a gift to Saganowski, who was the player who participated in the goal. He cut inside the area, shot, and the goalkeeper palmed my foot. He is the one who is enjoying this gift that I received.

Roger really couldn't accept the gift from one of the sponsors of the Polish football federation. Four years before making history in the European country, he underwent a trial by fire at Flamengo. After a victory for Rubro-Negro, he and his teammates went to Bangu, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, to celebrate the birthday of Douglas Silva, midfielder of the team that would become state champion.

- After a game, we went to Douglas Silva's birthday at his house. He lived in Bangu. It was me, Jean, Júnior Baiano. And the vast majority of guys drink on their days off. People like their beer, the famous Danone. And the guys forcing me there to drink. "Today you will drink." They held me down, threw beer in my face, but I didn't like it. They tried to make me drink. Júnior Baiano, Diogo, Douglas Silva... There were a group of people who really liked a "danone", they would make the most of this gift (laughs).

- I even took a sip to put an end to the joke , but I did not like it. After that I never tried it again, at most I have a sip of champagne on New Year's Eve, but still children's champagne, without alcohol.

The Super World Cup will be held between June 15 and July 13, 2025 The competition already has 30 qualified teams, with three Brazilians among them: Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense. Brazil may have one more representative. Peñarol [if they win the Libertadores] and Olímpia [if River wins the Libertadores] are the other teams in the running.

What will the Super Mundial be like?

< The competition organized by FIFA will be played for the first time with 32 teams next year. The United States will host the first edition of the tournament in this format. The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups with four teams each, with them facing each other in a single round. The top two in each group will advance to the round of 16. The knockout stage will be played in a single game.

The places are divided into: 12 for Europe, six for South America, four for Asia, Africa and North, Central America and the Caribbean, one for Oceania and one for the host country.

In addition to the remaining MLS spot, which has not yet defined its representative, the other available entry belongs to South America. It is destined for the champion of the edition of 2024 of the Libertadores. If River Plate wins the title, it will be transferred to the Conmebol ranking in FIFA and would already have an owner: Olímpia-PAR.

Brazilian fans started Wednesday (31) watching a comeback defeat for Brazil. This is because the Brazilian men's volleyball team was beaten by Poland by 3 sets to 2 (22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23 and 15-12). However, the result was not worse than it seems. This is because the team led by Bernardinho secured a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

For Brazil to qualify for the quarter-finals without any fear, the team will have to do its homework well and beat Egypt by 3 sets to 0 next Friday (2). The African team is the worst in the group and has lost its two matches so far.

Thus, these are the calculations for Brazil to advance as one of the best third-placed teams, since Italy and Poland are the ones who will fight for the first two positions in the group.

MATCH SUMMARY:

Brazil started the match against Poland flying. He dominated the first set and opened up a lead of 19 to 13. However, he began to suffer to close the partial. First I let it be 19 to 17 on Semeniuk's serve. Then he ended up taking the turn at 22 to 21 with Kurek. However, Bernardinho made the inversion with Cachopa and Lukas Bergmann and saw everything go well, with Lucarelli turning the match around.

However, the second set was not good for Brazil. Poland took a 5-0 lead on Bieniek's serve. The Brazilian team even reached 9 to 8, but failed and saw the Poles draw.

Bernardinho decided to change the team, removing Bruninho and Leal and returning with Cachopa and Adriano, and again it worked . Brazil dominated the partial from the beginning, managed to hold on and won the third set by 25 to 19. The fourth partial was balanced, with both teams taking turns leading on the scoreboard. But Poland again showed superiority and won the set, tying at 2-2.

The Brazilian team started the fifth and final set feeling quite defeated. Poland soon opened 4-1 with two aces from Huber and then 6-2. Bernardinho moved and reversed with Bruninho and Leal. The team even tried to seek a draw at 12-12, but failed and ended up suffering two aces from León and lost 15-12.
