Currently at Juventude, right-back João Lucas recalled a important decision of his career during his time at Flamengo, where he was trained by Jorge Jesus between 2019 and 2020. In an interview with the program 'No Attack', João Lucas said that, while he was at Mengão, he received a proposal to a club from Portugal, but the negotiation was blocked by the coach himself, who guaranteed that he would use the player in the team.

Without revealing which club made the proposal, João Lucas explained that, after the conversation with Jorge Jesus, he decided to remain at Flamengo, believing that this was the best choice for its future.

"I had proposals. I remember it was on Flamengo, when the New Year arrived, and I received an offer from Portugal. Jorge Jesus sat down with me and said he wouldn't release me. He told me he would use me. At the moment, I thought it would be better to stay. I didn't have much experience on the national scene, so I wanted to play here, make my mark and be known. .

Despite Jorge Jesus' confidence, João Lucas's success in Flamengo was limited. Brought to Bangu, the full-back played just nine matches under Jesus' command: five in the Brazilian Championship of 2019and four at the beginning of 2020, between Campeonato Carioca and Liberators.

The European dream and the appreciation of Brazilian football

Even with the decision to remain in Brazil, João Lucas revealed that his dream of playing in Europe is still is alive. However, he defended the idea that playing in the Brazilian Championship is in no way a demotion.

"I have the desire to play abroad. If it's a good opportunity, I would accept it. But staying here is not a demotion for no one. We have a very strong league, people need to value our product more. foreign players are coming here wanting to come back and take on prominent roles in big teams", highlighted João Lucas, citing examples of players like them. Memphis Depay and Dimitri Payet, who recently arrived in Brazil.

João Lucas' career

Natural from Goiás, João Lucas began his career at Villa Nova (MG) before being revealed in the youth teams of Goiás. However, it was at Bangu, during the Campeonato Carioca 2019, that the full-back caught the attention of Flamengo, who signed him. At Rubro-Negro, he had 19 games and one goal scored before being loaned to Cuiabá, where he established himself and was acquired for the 2022 season.

In 2023, João Lucas played for Santos, but the club ended up relegated to the second division. He was then loaned to Juventude, where he stood out and closed the 2024 season as an absolute starter, playing 49 games, scoring two goals and contributing seven assists. The player continues with the ambition of growing his career, whether in Brazil or abroad.
