Even far from the Chilean National Team, Arturo Vidal continues to closely follow football in his country. After the 2-1 defeat to Brazil in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the former Flamengo player harshly criticized coach Ricardo Gareca, from Chile. Currently at Colo-Colo, Vidal expressed his dissatisfaction with the coach, pointing out mistakes that, according to him, influenced the result of the match.

“Why didn’t he make substitutions at half-time? He made the changes later just to stop the game. It took too long. I'm so angry at this, it can't be like this. There are times when you need to add new blood”, he said, before finishing:

“He had to have saved changes and made substitutions from 40 minutes onwards in the 2nd half. He had to start gaining time, cooling down the game, but he didn't do that. He made the changes with 20 minutes left (to finish), and that gave new life to Brazil. Substitutions also serve for this, to cool down the match”, concluded Vidal.

CONTROVERSY IN FLAMENGO

Despite having won important titles, such as the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil, during his time at Flamengo, Vidal was involved in some controversies at the club. In February 2023, the midfielder showed frustration after not being used by coach Vítor Pereira, throwing his boots on the bench in a moment of anger. In the same week, Vidal offered to play for Colo-Colo, which generated discontent among part of the red and black fans.

FLAMENGO PREPARATION

During the FIFA Data break, Flamengo continues to prepare for the challenges of the season . The club will face two decisive clashes in the coming days. The first will be against Fluminense, at Maracanã, for the 30th round of the Brasileirão, in which Flamengo needs to win next Thursday (17) to continue with a chance of competing for the title.

Next, Flamengo will seek to secure its place in the final of the Copa do Brasil. The team will face Corinthians on October 20th, at 4pm (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena. Having won the first game 1-0, Rubro-Negro only needs a draw in São Paulo to qualify for the grand final.

After Flamengo's victory over Juventude, coach Filipe Luís stated that Saúl is experiencing "perhaps the best moment of his career." However, the Spanish midfielder was frank in disagreeing with the coach's assessment and took the opportunity to reflect on his experience in Brazil.

Saúl responds to Filipe Luís about his time at Flamengo being the best moment of his career: "I don't think so"

"I don't think so (about being at the best moment of my career). I've had some really good moments, but today I feel really good mentally . I'm lucky to have my family with me on this adventure, even though I know it's not easy for them. I train, play, and enjoy what I do, but for those who follow us, it's more complicated," the midfielder began.

"I'm very proud of my family; it allows me to enjoy the present. I've had some great times, and I know the best is yet to come . I'm playing well now, but the bad times will come too, and I'll know how to handle them," Saúl said at a press conference.

WHAT DID FILIPE LUÍS SAY?

The Spaniard had an intense few days. On Saturday (13), his son, Marco Ñíguez Salamanca, was born, and on Sunday (14), Saúl traveled to Caxias do Sul to play against Juventude. Despite the atypical preparation, the midfielder was decisive and provided the assist for Arrascaeta to open the scoring in the red-black victory.

" We're seeing the best Saúl. Perhaps the best Saúl of his career . This is a credit to him and also to the club, which believed in and managed to unlock this player's potential. Everyone knows the career he built, especially at Atlético de Madrid," said Filipe Luís.

WILL SAÚL HAVE TIME TO ENJOY HIS SON?

Flamengo returned to Rio de Janeiro on Sunday (14), around 10:30 pm (Brasília time). However, the rest time will be short: on Thursday (18), the team faces Estudiantes (ARG), at Maracanã , for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores.
