Defender Da Mata, 17 years old, is Flamengo's new reinforcement for the 2024 season. The former Grêmio signed a contract with the Rio team until the end of 2027 and arrived making reference to the famous phrase by star player Ronaldinho Gaúcho , who also wore the Rubro-Negro shirt. In a post on his official Instagram, the defender wrote that now He is Mengão. Furthermore, he left a snippet of the club's anthem and thanked him for the opportunity. In the words of the former Tricolor Gaúcho, there will be no lack of fight and dedication.

Having spent time in the Brazilian National Team's youth categories and being a standout for Grêmio, the athlete has lost space in the team in recent months. Furthermore, Da Mata expressed his desire to leave Porto Alegre and started conversations with Rubro-Negro. Thus, after negotiations dragged on for several days, the parties reached an agreement.

In the transaction, Flamengo acquired 25% of the defender's economic rights and Grêmio hopes to profit from a future sale. Initially, Imortal demanded 400 thousand euros for the percentage that Rubro-Negro bought. The club also included another clause in the contract.

According to the Gaucho's request, Flamengo could acquire another 25% of the defender's pass for a value of approximately 600 thousand euros. The Rio team tried to renegotiate and conversations stalled for a moment.

The Flamengo takes the field in this Thursday (26), at 2:45 pm (Brasília time), to face Boavista in the second leg of the semi-finals of the Carioca Under-20 Championship. The match will be decisive for Rubro-Negro's aspirations in the state of the category, as the club seeks to break a four-year fast without winning the title. As they finished the qualifying phase in second place, the team led by Filipe Luís enters the field with the advantage of a draw to guarantee their place in the final.

Flamengo should start the match with the following lineup: Caio Barone in goal; Daniel Sales, João Victor, Felipe Vieira and Carbone on the defensive line; Rayan Lucas, Caio Garcia, Fabiano and Guilherme in midfield; and Felipe Teresa and Rafael Couto in attack. The expectation is for a balanced game, considering the 1-1 draw in the first clash between the two teams. If Rubro-Negro qualifies, they will face the winner of the other semi-final, which is being played between Vasco and Fluminense, in another Rio classic.

FLAMENGO HAS A BIG DECISION

In the duel on the way, Flamengo started well and opened the score in the 18th minute with Guilherme Gomes. However, the Boavista team managed to react quickly and tied the game five minutes later with Rivas' goal, leaving the match open for decision at the Estádio da Gávea. With the score level and the red-black advantage due to the draw in the second round, Filipe Luís's men know that they need to maintain control of the game and take advantage of opportunities to avoid surprises.

Flamengo arrives under pressure for the confrontation, as they have not won the Carioca Under-20 Championship since 2019, when they defeated Vasco in the final. Since then, the Crias do Ninho have accumulated frustrated participation in the competition, and now they have the chance to regain their leading role on the state scene. Furthermore, the early elimination in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship, after the defeat to Fortaleza in the quarter-finals, increased the need for a good campaign at Carioca to close the season in a positive way.

Flamengo is still waiting to announce the signing of defender Da Mata, from Grêmio. According to the Soccer News Grêmio profile, the defender has been on Rio de Janeiro soil since January 29th, awaiting termination with the club from Rio Grande do Sul to sign with Rubro-Negro. However, the impasse continues, as the ‘Immortal’ does not want to release it for free. The 17-year-old player would join the under-20s.

Previously, Flamengo would sign Da Mata free of charge, on a four-year contract. Initially, Fla would only acquire 25% of the athlete. However, if they approved Da Mata's performance, Flamengo could buy another 25% of the 17-year-old for 400 thousand euros. There would still be another clause in the contract, which would make Fla later buy another 25% for 600 thousand euros. But when it was leaked, Grêmio fans criticized it on social media and Tricolor did not want to move forward with negotiations.

On the other hand, Flamengo continues to hope to close the signing, as the young man is already in the Rio de Janeiro to make the change official. As Da Mata must sign a four-year contract, the defender may soon be present in Mais Querido's professional squad. If he moved up at the moment, the Grêmio defender would need to compete for position with Léo Pereira, Fabrício Bruno, David Luiz and Cleiton.

Da Mata should arrive with Vitor Boin at Flamengo

In addition to Da Mata, Flamengo should sign goalkeeper Vitor Boin, from Aster-SP, for the under-20s. In contact with the MRN report, Boin confirmed that the negotiation has been completed. Furthermore, he revealed that his contract with Fla should be for one season: “Yes. I think it will be a one-year contract, but everything will be fine with me this week.”
