On the night of last Thursday (16), Santos beat Flamengo 1-0 at Vila Belmiro, in a match valid for the 14th round of the Brazilian Championship. The only goal of the match was scored by Neymar Jr. , in the final stage, consolidating Peixe's good moment under the command of Cleber Xavier.
The match was balanced for most of the time, with Alvinegro betting on solid marking and Rubro-Negro having more possession , but facing difficulties in converting the offensive volume into clear opportunities.
At the end of the match, Filipe Luís commented on the team's posture and the limitations that prevented Flamengo from coming back . According to the experienced full-back, the team managed to organize itself and maintain possession, but wasn't aggressive enough in Flamengo 's attack.
"They tried to press early in the game, and we managed to come out on top. We ended up dominating and defending with the ball. But I agree that in the final third, we lacked more aggression to finish plays, a little more courage to risk crosses , shots from outside the box, or even one-on-ones in a team that was so good defensively, very well worked by Cleber (Xavier)," analyzed the number 16.
Filipe Luís also revealed a tactical attempt to change the positioning between Luiz Araújo and Bruno Henrique , seeking more effectiveness in crosses, but he came up against the consistency of the Santos defense led by Cléber Xavier.
Filipe Luís laments Flamengo's offensive performance: "We couldn't convert"
"In the first half, I tried to switch Luiz Araújo and Bruno Henrique because Luiz would have been able to cross with his left foot. Even so, Santos was blocking our movements, crosses, and our entries into the box a lot . We created a lot of chances, but we couldn't convert them into scoring chances. We'll analyze what we can do differently to overcome this type of defense."
