While Flamengo's alternative team began his campaign in Campeonato Carioca with a defeat to Boavista last Sunday (12), the main squad is in the USA for pre-season. Coach Filipe Luís, who demonstrated great intensity in the first training session on American soil, highlighted the main benefits of carrying out the preparation outside Brazil.
Among the points raised, Filipe mentioned: technical training, physical and tacticalwith the group together; focus on mental preparation of athletes; use of high-level facilities; strengthening relationships between players; and integration of new members into the cast.
Physical and mental preparation
For Filipe Luís, getting the group together for training is essential not only for the physical aspect, but also for the emotional of players. The coach highlighted the importance of working on the athletes' "mental part" before the start of the season, ensuring exclusive focus on preparation and rest.
“We understand that it is extremely important to have a pre-season outside of Rio de Janeiro, where we can get together the entire group to carry out the necessary training, both physical, technical and tactical, in addition to working on the mental part of the players who will be exclusively dedicated to training, rest and preparation”, said the coach.
Use of high-level facilities and strengthening the group
Filipe also highlighted that the experience in the USA allows him to take advantage of high quality facilities and strengthen ties between Flamengo, something he considers fundamental to forming a winning group.
“Holding this pre-season in such an important place as the United States, with high-level facilities b>, it will be fundamental to strengthen the group and prepare us for what will come throughout the season. This is the time to unite the players, who will start to strengthen ties both on and off the field”, explained Filipe Luís.
Integration of new players and young players from the base
Although Flamengo has not yet announced signings for 2025, Filipe Luís highlighted that the Pre-season will also be an opportunity to integrate new players and young talents from the academy who are consolidating themselves in the main squad.
“It will also be an opportunity to welcome the boys from the base who will be able to climb with us on this period”, concluded the Flamengo coach.

On Wednesday night (06), Flamengo beat Atlético-MG 1-0 at Arena MRV , in Belo Horizonte, in the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. With the same score as the first leg, but in favor of Rubro-Negro, the decision of the spot was left to the penalty shootout . In the penalties, the Minas Gerais team was more efficient and advanced to the semifinals.
Despite a strong performance over the 90 minutes, the result wasn't enough. In the penalty shootout, Atlético-MG converted four of their five attempts, while Mengão missed a penalty each from Wallace Yan and Samuel Lino.
After the end of the match, Filipe Luís, who led the team in the coach's absence , commented on the starting lineup and explained that the decisions were made based on the physical conditions of the available athletes.
"The decision on the starting lineup first involved some who didn't travel, Bruno Henrique and Luiz Araújo, who weren't fit to play , were barred. Some couldn't start because they were on vacation, like Lino, Royal, and Saúl," said Filipe Luís .
"Arrascaeta felt discomfort in the last game. And I put together a team with the players I have, just like in the first game , enough to win and play a great game. That's how they did it," said the coach.
Now out of the Copa do Brasil competition, the Rio team's focus is now fully on the Brazilian Championship . Next Saturday (09), Mengão hosts Mirassol at Maracanã, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), for the 18th round of the competition.
The Rio de Janeiro team beat Atlético-MG 1-0 away from home, equaling the aggregate score, but saw their place in the semifinals slip away on penalties after a mistake by Wallace.
