The 1-0 victory over Bahia gave Flamengo three important points in the fight for the top spot in the Brasileirão. But in the press room at Maracanã, the subject that dominated Filipe Luís's press conference was another: the unstable campaign in the Libertadores. The Rubro-Negro has won only one of the four games played so far in Group C. There were two draws, one defeat and a single victory, a performance that put the team in third place, with five points.
Ahead of Flamengo are precisely their last two opponents in the group stage: LDU and Central Córdoba, both with eight points. To advance to the round of 16 without depending on other results, Fla needs to beat LDU on Thursday (15), at Maracanã, by a difference of two goals. — We don't have to give our word, we have to show it on the field — declared Filipe, bluntly. — We are having a bad Libertadores, we are in a situation where we put ourselves.
The coach did not shy away from his responsibility and, at the same time, valued the group's opponents. According to him, the lesson to be learned is that "there is no such thing as a weak opponent" in a competition like the Libertadores. — If they are in the Libertadores, it is because they were champions or finished at the top of the table. There are no easy games. We need to understand this as a group — added the coach.
Thursday's game against LDU is decisive. In addition to the need to win, Flamengo will have to deal with the pressure from the fans and the tense atmosphere that the campaign itself has generated. Filipe knows this and made a direct appeal. — It's in our hands to get out of this situation. It's up to us. We need the fans on Thursday to turn things around. We want to get past the group stage — he said.
The club expects a packed Maracanã. Despite the doubts about the team's performance, the board is counting on the fans' strength to transform the atmosphere and push the team against a direct rival in the fight for qualification. Filipe still has internal support at Flamengo, despite the pressure for results. There is a group at Gávea that sees the former full-back as a medium to long-term bet, even with the constant shadow of Jorge Jesus and other names being floated behind the scenes.
The new agreement will bring the Rio de Janeiro club R$268 million per year and positions the team among the biggest contracts in world football with the betting house.

Flamengo's Deliberative Council approved, this Tuesday (19), the master sponsorship contract with Betano , one of the global leaders in sports betting. The link will begin on August 20, 2025 and will remain valid until December 31, 2028 , guaranteeing the club R$268 million per season. The agreement is considered the largest ever signed in national football.
The partnership includes brand exposure on the uniforms of the professional team and also on Olympic sports such as volleyball, basketball, and women's soccer. Additionally, the company will be featured on Flamengo TV content, expanding commercial integration and global visibility. The board emphasizes that the agreement is not limited to financial support, but opens doors to new business opportunities.
With values comparable to those of European football giants, the contract brings Flamengo closer to clubs like Real Madrid, PSG, and Barcelona. For comparison, Flamengo's partnership surpasses sponsorships from clubs like Ajax, whose partnership with Ziggo generates only €8 million (approximately R$51 million) per year. This amount places the Brazilian team in 10th place in the world rankings for largest sponsorship deals.
This Wednesday (20), at 8:30 am, president Luiz Eduardo Baptista , known as Bap, will be live on Flamengo TV alongside Guilherme Augusto Figueiredo, General Director of Betano Brasil. The conversation will be led by João Guilherme and will cover the details of the negotiation considered historic.
The striker is accompanying the delegation to Porto Alegre for the match against Internacional, but is experiencing a period of uncertainty and low minutes.

Striker Juninho traveled with the Flamengo squad to Porto Alegre, where the team faces Internacional this Wednesday (20) , for the decisive clash of the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. However, the player's use is not yet confirmed . Out of the last match against Colorado for the Brazilian Championship, the center forward lost space in recent weeks and was not related in three consecutive games, including the first leg duel at Maracanã.
Internally, the club's board is evaluating the athlete's future, as he has received inquiries from Saudi Arabian football clubs, with loan proposals rejected by the club. Previously, Juninho was close to a move to Sevilla earlier this year.
Negotiations, however, were halted after coach Filipe Luís intervened, contacting the striker to convince him to join Mengão's project. The investment was substantial: R$37.2 million to acquire the number 23, who currently has no place on the team.
In 2025, Juninho played 22 matches for Flamengo , scoring just three goals and providing no assists. He played 726 minutes that season, almost always sporadically used by Filipe Luís. In the Carioca Championship, he appeared in eight matches and scored two goals.
He has already played six times in the Brasileirão, without finding the net. In the Libertadores, he played four games and scored one goal , while in the national cups and the Club World Cup, he failed to stand out.
