After the goalless draw between Flamengo and Atlético-MG, on Wednesday (13), for the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship, Filipe Luís, coach of Mais Querido, was asked about the choice of David Luiz as penalty taker in the match. In a post-game press conference, the coach highlighted that the decision was premeditated, highlighting that both David Luiz and Alcaraz were prepared for the role.

I supervise all tactical decisions on the field, including choosing who takes penalties. David Luiz has a very high batting average during training and, therefore, was chosen. Despite not converting the charge against goalkeeper Everson, from Atlético-MG, this is part of the sporting context and the risks taken in the game”, explained Filipe Luís.

HISTORY AND CONFIDENCE IN BATTERS

The Mengão coach demonstrated complete confidence in the players selected for the task, highlighting that David Luiz is one of the most experienced athletes in the squad. According to him, having multiple players ready to take charges is essential to minimize risks and adapt to the conditions of each match, including the emotional state of the players.

“I always define two collectors so that we can have flexibility and security. David has already demonstrated his ability in crucial moments, including decisions in major international championships, which proves his value”, added Filipe Luís.

FLAMENGO RETURN TO FOURTH POSITION IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

The goalless draw at Maracanã guaranteed CRF a return to fourth place in the table, now with 59 points. Atlético-MG remained in tenth place, with 42 points, in a match that reflected the importance of the fight for the first places in the championship.
