Flamengo fans filled the Maracanã stadium last Saturday (2), for the match against Madureira, in the last round of the Guanabara Cup. Thus, Fla had a great performance and managed to win 3-0, with goals from Arrascaeta, Pedro and Léo Pereira, who scored a great free kick. But, what surprised many people was the audience for the classic between Fluminense and Botafogo at Maracanã this Sunday (3).

In a tough match, Botafogo and Fluminense played an exciting game for the Carioca Championship. Just two minutes into the game, Marlon Freitas opened the scoring for Botafogo with a well-aimed left-footed shot after a cross in the area. The black and white team increased their lead with a goal from Raí, but Fluminense scored with Lelê.

In the second half, despite a slower start, the match gained excitement in the final minutes. In the 34th minute, John Kennedy conceded a penalty and converted with a dig, equalizing the score. However, Botafogo regained the lead with a penalty converted by Marlon Freitas, after a foul committed by André, who ended up being sent off. In stoppage time, Urso scored the fourth goal for Botafogo, securing a 4-2 victory over.

While the fans had a party at Maracanã on Saturday (2), the audience for the classic between Fluminense and Botafogo was far from what was expected. Flamengo managed to place more than 63 thousand fans in the stadium, while the two giants of Rio de Janeiro football played in front of an audience of around 21 thousand present.

Finally, Flamengo has broken several Brazilian football attendance records, staying well ahead of its rivals. In the 2023 season, Mengão was the Brazilian team with the highest average attendance in games for the Brasileirão.

Speculated as a possible reinforcement of Flamengo to fill the gap left by Pedro, striker Anthony Martial is free on the market, but has not played since December 9, 2023. On that occasion, Manchester United, his former club, entered the field to face Bournemouth and lost 3-0 in the Premier League. Martial was a starter and played for 56 minutes.

At the beginning of the year, the French striker suffered a groin injury that required surgery. Therefore, he was away for around 42 days, only returning in March. Even though there were three months left on his contract, Manchester United chose to let go of the player. Since then, Martial has been evaluating his next club and Flamengo is paying attention to his movements.

Just like Flamengo, Anthony Martial suffered from injuries in 2023/24. The star had several physical problems that kept him away from the field for a total of 60 days. Due to muscle pain, the player was not available for United in 12 matches last season.

Status of the deal between Flamengo and Anthony Martial

If the If Flamengo is really interested in the Frenchman, they will have to race against time and agree on the signing by Monday (9). Registration for free players is closing. According to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni, who works at the Gianluca Dimarzio portal, the deal could come to fruition soon.

Offered to Flamengo by his staff, Martial also had a drop in his personal numbers. In the 2022/23 season, the player scored six goals and provided two assists in the Premier League. In 2023/24, it was just one goal and no pass that resulted in the ball in the opponents' net.

After speeches by the president of Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, the owner of SAF do Botafogo, John Textor, the Rubro-Negro leader continues to retort. In August, Landim pointed to black and white spending and called for financial fair play in Brazil. Textor gave an interview responding to the manager and, this Thursday (5), made a post on Instagram comparing amounts spent by the teams.

The owner of Botafogo used a post from “Portal Botafoguense”, on Instagram, in which it compares the amounts spent by Flamengo and its club in each sector.
