Flamengo expressed interest in right-back Santiago Arias, currently at FC Cincinnati, according to exclusive information gathered by MLS Multiplex. Arias, who has gone through ups and downs in recent years, seems to have caught the attention of Flamengo's technical committee, which is looking to reinforce the defensive sector.

The player's trajectory, from the height of his career to the challenges in the United States, represents a story of resilience that could unfold into a new chapter in the Brazilian football scene.

Santiago Arias, a 31-year-old Colombian, reached his peak in 2018, when he was a starting right-back for the Colombian national team. His career includes spells at PSV and Atlético Madrid, but in recent years he faced challenges that led him to FC Cincinnati.

In early 2023, Arias signed with the MLS club, where he had the opportunity to revitalize his career as a starter and regain his place in the Colombian team. However, recently, a surprising turn of events occurred when FC Cincinnati opted not to renew the player's contract for the 2024 season.

Arias' situation creates a window of opportunity for interested clubs, such as Flamengo, who are looking to strengthen their defensive sector for the national and international challenges reserved for next year.

Fired this Monday morning, Tite< /a> failed to implement the expected performance at Flamengo since his arrival. Furthermore, the strong pressure from the fans would have influenced both the board and the coach himself. According to Lédio Carmona, the coach "felt" the weight of this situation. He appeared visibly dejected in the post-game press conference, and, even after the victory that kept the team in the G4 of the Brasileirão, the atmosphere of dismissal was already noticeable.

“He is emotionally fragile, I think he was unable to mobilize emotionally , in soul terms, the players. If you look at Flamengo's goal celebration, it will look like a goal at 15 in the first half, players celebrated in an almost cold way. And the information we have is that the locker room after the game is a very cold locker room”, analyzed Lédio.

Lédio Carmona highlighted that, in addition to the elimination in the Libertadores, the main reason for Tite has been underperforming, especially in recent months. The absence of Pedro, an essential player for the coach's scheme, left the team vulnerable, further exposing the team's flaws.

“He couldn't make the team play well, he couldn't find solutions, he couldn't It improved the players' mental side. And this brought reflections from the board in terms of this, on his emotional side, on the team's soul”, added Lédio.

Now, with Filipe Luís taking charge until the end of the year, the expectation is that there will be no there is only a change of name in the technical area, but also a change in the team's tactics and posture on the field. Filipe, who has a good relationship with the players, is betting on a more modern game proposal to try to save Flamengo's season.

Major League Soccer (MLS) has invested heavily in signing major international stars, such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Olivier Giroud, to increase the league's visibility. However, the name that has stood out the most this season is that of Brazilian Evander, 26 years old, revealed by Vasco and currently playing for Portland Timbers.

Evander occupies the top of the list of goal participations in the MLS, with 33 in 25 matches. The midfielder has already scored 15 goals, being the sixth highest scorer in the championship, and leads the assists, with 18 passes to goal. He surpasses names like Luciano Acosta, from Cincinnati, and even Messi, from Inter Miami, who only played 15 times this season.

FLAMENGO'S INTEREST AND EUROPE ON THE HORIZON

Recently, Mais Querido showed interest in counting on Evander's talent. Marcos Braz, vice-president of football at the Rio club, publicly defended the signing of the athlete. However, Portland Timbers turned down the proposal, after having spent 10 million euros to sign him from Midtjylland, in Denmark.

Evander, who recognizes Mengão's greatness, commented on the interest: “I was very happy to be remembered, especially by a club like Flamengo, one of the biggest in Brazil and America. Even though I have a history at Vasco, I wouldn’t be the first or the last to change rivals”, said the player. He also highlighted his desire to play for major European clubs and the Brazilian national team, although he recognizes the difficulties of making this transition directly from MLS.

CONSISTENCE IN MLS AND VOTING FOR THE ALL-STAR GAME

Evander's good performance in the MLS earned him the opportunity to play in the North American league's All-Star Game, where he was a starter. Despite the 4-1 defeat to the stars of the Mexican League, the feat is further proof of the player's relevance in the competition. He was accompanied by Gabriel Pec, from LA Galaxy, another Brazilian who also participated in the event.
