Flamengo wastes chances and ends up losing to Central Córdoba in the Libertadores

Despite the red-black dominance, the attack once again left something to be desired, something that the Argentine team took advantage of in the few chances it had.

Libertadores night, Maracanã and Pedro's return to Flamengo this Wednesday. That's because the red-black team hosted Argentines from Central Córdoba in the second round of the group stage of the continental tournament. In this sense, Filipe Luís's team, despite dominating the game, ended up losing 2x1 , in the famous "those who don't score, concede".

SUMMARY

Flamengo started the match taking control of the attacking initiatives and within a minute had a clear chance . Juninho received the ball in the area and shot straight at the defender. At 9 minutes, it was Bruno Henrique's turn to waste a chance directly against Aguerre. The team's dominance of possession and offensive presence gave indications that a goal was imminent , but they lacked the precision to score. Despite the pressure, Central Córdoba did not give up on attacking and whenever they saw an opening, they exploited the speed of their forwards to try to surprise the defense. In one of the attacking plays, the ball remained live in the area, Florentín tried to dribble in the air and the ball hit Léo Pereira's hand. After checking the VAR, the referee awarded a penalty, which Heredia converted at 23 minutes . The Argentine team retreated significantly, and Rubro-Negro returned to the attacking field, but again without any effectiveness, with the exception of Arrascaeta's individual attempts. Before half-time, the Argentine team once again came out to smother Flamengo 's defense and ended up winning a free kick almost at the corner. Cufré hit it accurately and Florentín headed it in freely to extend the lead.

In the second half, needing to turn the game around, Filipe Luís brought Wesley, Pulgar and Gerson onto the field. Although Cordoba missed a clear chance to score, the substitutions worked and Flamengo came back stronger and managed to reduce the score in the 15th minute. De la Cruz took a free kick straight at goal. Aguerre tried, but couldn't get to the ball, which went into the corner. Great goal! After the goal, Flamengo tried to 'smother' the ball, but made the same offensive mistakes as in other matches, while the Argentines stayed back, waiting for an opportunity to break through. So, Filipe Luís brought forward Pedro onto the field , who returned to the field 7 months after a serious injury. However, without match rhythm, the forward barely got the ball and couldn't help the team. Like a good Argentine team, Cordoba killed time with players falling on the field and Filipe Luís's first defeat in 2025 happened. Game over!

AND NOW?

With this result, Flamengo remains with 3 points in group C and awaits the result of LDU x Táchira, who are playing in Quito. Now, the team turns its focus to the Brazilian Championship. This is because it faces Grêmio, at Arena do Grêmio, next Sunday, at 6:30 pm for the third round of the competition. For the Libertadores, Fla returns to the field against LDU, at the altitude of Quito, in Ecuador. The duel will take place on the 22nd, at 7 pm (Brasília time).

Flamengo hosts Estudiantes this Thursday (19), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores. For this decisive duel, tarot reader Luiz Filho, from the “Renascer das Cartas” channel on YouTube, indicated that Rubro-Negro enters the field as the favorite for the confrontation.

According to Luiz Filho, the team led by Filipe Luís will display "a lot of strength and boldness" on the field . The prediction suggests that Flamengo must act practically and objectively to achieve its objectives in the duel, while also maintaining calm and composure to control the action and dictate the pace of the game at Maracanã.

On the other hand, the tarot reader pointed out that Estudiantes could experience fluctuations throughout the match, which could compromise the Argentine team's performance. For Luiz Filho, this scenario increases Flamengo's chances of achieving a favorable score in the first leg , giving them an advantage in the decisive away clash.

PROBABLE FLAMENGO

After training last Wednesday (17), the tendency is for coach Filipe Luís to send onto the field a Flamengo with: Rossi; Varela, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira and Ayrton Lucas; De La Cruz (Allan), Saúl and Arrascaeta; Plata, Samuel Lino and Pedro.

PACKED MARACANÃ

The Red-Black Nation promises another great party. All tickets were sold in advance, guaranteeing the presence of over 69,000 fans. This should be Flamengo's largest crowd in this edition of the Libertadores. The expectation is to repeat the solid performance of the round of 16, when the team eliminated Internacional with two wins and qualified 3-0 on aggregate.
