Flamengo fans spent the whole of Thursday apprehensive. This was because the team led by Filipe Luís would be playing for its life in the Libertadores against LDU, at Maracanã. However, Flamengo fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as the Rio de Janeiro team made the most of its home advantage and beat the team from Quito 2-0 , equaling the team in points and leaving the classification decision for the last round.
Flamengo started the match with a bang and went all out to get the result. Léo Ortiz opened the scoring right away, in the ninth minute, from a set piece after a corner kick taken by Luiz Araújo. LDU seemed lost and barely left their defensive half in the first 45 minutes, with only one good chance in the 36th minute, with Gruezo. Rubro-Negro slowed down after the exciting start, but never stopped dominating. They needed to be more careful with the final pass to make the goalkeeper work harder and extend the lead.
The second half was a mirror image of the first. This is because right at the beginning, Fla increased the score with Luiz Araújo at 8 minutes, taking a rebound at the edge of the area and shooting hard towards the goal. Flamengo continued with the same momentum as in the first half. LDU even tried to get into the area right at the beginning, but Rubro-Negro gave them little space. From the 30th minute onwards, the game became a bit lukewarm, even after the changes. However, LDU started to enjoy the game more and kept possession of the ball, getting closer to Flamengo 's area, but without much danger for Rossi. After that, it was just a matter of waiting for the referee to blow the whistle to end the match.
With the victory by two goals, Flamengo is tied with LDU on 8 points, but is in second place by one goal difference. In this sense, to qualify, they will have to beat the bottom-placed Deportivo Táchira from Venezuela , also at Maracanã. However, before that, the red-black team has a commitment in the Brazilian championship.
The team led by Filipe Luís - who still won't be able to count on Gonzalo Plata - has a classic against Botafogo, a repeat of the Super Cup final. The duel against Alvinegro will take place next Sunday, at 6:30 pm, also at Maracanã.
The player is a product of Mengão's youth academy and is Galo's new signing for the 2025 season after a disappointing stint at Real Madrid.

Atlético-MG made official this Friday (08) the signing of midfielder Reinier , revealed by Flamengo. The 23-year-old player signed a contract valid until December 31, 2029. According to journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, Mengão consulted the player's representatives, but considered the amounts requested too high for the moment.
Atlético-MG on Reinier, ex-Flamengo: "Reinier is a Rooster"
"Reinier is a Galo! An Olympic champion with experience at clubs in Spain, Germany, and Italy, the midfielder is Atlético's newest addition! At 23, he signed a contract until December 31, 2029, and will be another option for Cuca's squad . Keep it up, Reinier!" the club posted on social media.
Reinier rose to prominence in Brazilian football after being promoted to the professional team in 2019 under Jorge Jesus. That year, he was part of the squads that won the Brasileirão and Libertadores . For Flamengo , the midfielder made 15 appearances, scoring six goals and contributing two assists.
After excelling at Flamengo, he was sold to Real Madrid (ESP), but failed to make the first team. He played on loan at Borussia Dortmund (GER), Girona (ESP), and Frosinone (ITA) before returning to Brazil to play for Atlético-MG.
While Reinier reinforces Galo, Flamengo remains focused on the Brasileirão . This Saturday (09), the team faces Mirassol, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, for the 18th round. The broadcast will be exclusive to Premiere, via pay-per-view.
