Once again, Brazilian refereeing is in the spotlight. With new controversies emerging with each round, Flamengo has taken center stage and is leading a group of clubs that want changes to the VAR protocol in national football. Amid constant criticism and an increasingly troubled relationship between the field and technology, the National Club Commission is meeting this Monday (19) with a specific agenda: to suggest changes to the use of video referees in the country.
The movement is led by Flamengo , but has the support of ASA, Botafogo-SP, Fortaleza, Internacional, Maringá, São Paulo, Vasco and Volta Redonda. The meeting's main focus is to take proposals directly to Rodrigo Martins Cintra, who is responsible for the VAR operation at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). There are three objective measures, focusing on transparency, agility and autonomy of the referees.
The first of these is clear: cutting the continuous audio between the on-field referee and the VAR booth. The proposal does not eliminate contact between the parties, but aims to prevent the booth from being convinced of the final decision, a practice that has been pointed out as undue interference in the judgment of subjective plays.
For clubs, VAR should only recommend a review, without suggesting what should be called. There is a perception that the booth acts as a "second referee", something that goes against the original concept of the appeal, which is to assist, not decide. The second suggestion deals directly with the analysis time.
The idea is to establish two minutes as the maximum time for the booth to identify irregularities in game plays. If nothing is detected during this interval, the game would continue normally, without excessive stoppages. If any irregularity is detected during this time, the referee on the field would have another two minutes to review the play on the monitor — creating, in practice, an operational limit of up to four minutes per review, between the booth and the field.
The Rio de Janeiro club reportedly offered 7 million euros for 60% of the Santos goalkeeper's rights, but Peixe asked for a higher amount and refused the offer.

Flamengo has formalized a proposal for goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão , Santos' standout player in 2025. According to information from UOL, Rubro-Negro offered seven million euros (around R$45 million) for 60% of the player's economic rights.
Despite the high price, Santos rejected the offer. The São Paulo club believes Brazão should only leave if a minimum offer of €15 million (approximately R$94 million) is met, a sum considered fair by the board to open negotiations.
