Flamengo emerges as favorite for Casemiro's possible return to Brazilian football

Despite having a historical connection with São Paulo, the midfielder is seen at Mengão as the most viable destination in case of a return to Brazil after the end of his contract in Europe.

A product of São Paulo, Casemiro cemented his European career with Real Madrid , where he won five Champions League titles. Currently at Manchester United, the 33-year-old midfielder remains a starter in the Premier League , but he is already facing questions about his pace and performance.

According to the British website The Sporting News , although the historical connection with São Paulo is significant, the current situation makes Flamengo the strongest option for a potential return to Brazil. The red-and-black club, with its financial stability and solid sports project, is emerging as the favorite to sign the athlete in the coming years.

FUTURE IN THE BRAZILIAN NATIONAL TEAM

Casemiro's priority remains to remain with the Brazilian national team, with his sights set on the 2026 World Cup. Until then, he should continue to perform at a high level in Europe. However, after the tournament, a change of scenery is seen as plausible, especially if his contract with United is not renewed.

If he chooses to end his time in English football, there is the possibility of returning for free at the end of his contract , reinforcing speculation that Flamengo would be the natural destination given his structure and sporting ambitions.

CONTRACT WITH MANCHESTER UNITED

The midfielder's contract with Manchester United runs until mid-2026 . However, insider information indicates that his stay may not extend until the end of his contract. His annual salary, estimated at €11 million, is considered high and could make it difficult for him to remain in England. Therefore, a return to Brazil or even offers from other markets are not ruled out in the coming years.

SPECULATION AMONG FANS

On X (formerly Twitter) , several hypotheses about the mystery have emerged. Some believe Flamengo may announce a split with Libra or even the CBF . Others imagine the announcement may be linked to its own stadium, either a definitive step toward construction or the introduction of a new partner for the project.

There are also those who focus on more administrative or marketing matters:

  • Renewal of Filipe Luís ;
  • Announcement of partnership with Adidas ;
  • News about social entry ;
  • Broadcast partnership with Premiere/GETV ;
  • Marketing campaign with Shopee 9.9 ;
  • Integration of Betano with Flamengo TV .
NATION'S EXPECTATION

Regardless of the topic, the strategy seems to have already paid off: the simple announcement of the "official statement" sparked enormous interest and secured the attention of the Red-Black Nation, which is eagerly awaiting to find out what the news will be.

With Flamengo in a financial position that allows it to sign players from Europe, rival fans have been calling for the creation of a spending cap in the Brasileirão . However, the CBF has already made it clear that it does not intend to limit how much each club can invest.

“I CANNOT EQUALIZE THE UNEQUAL”

In an interview with ge, CBF consultant Cesar Grafietti explained that the most efficient model is the one that relates expenses and revenues , discarding a spending cap that is the same for all teams, but rather according to their investment capacity:

"Using the models we know from abroad, and which I think work best for football, it should always be a percentage ratio. With a defined cost, how much do you spend on payroll, investment, and hiring in relation to the club's revenue ? We have to remember that I can't make unequals equal. A club that makes R$1 billion has earned its way to that figure. So I can't make a club that makes R$1 billion spend the same as a club that makes R$200 million.

Cesar Grafietti on Financial Fair Play limiting Flamengo's investments: "It's unfair to those who managed to grow and restructure themselves"

Grafietti also highlighted that limiting investments by clubs like Flamengo , Palmeiras and Corinthians, which already exceed the R$1 billion mark in revenue, would be unfair: " Why say they can only spend R$200 or R$300 million because a regional club or a small city can only make that much in revenue? It's unfair to those who have managed to grow and restructure themselves."

FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY FROM 2026

Unlike the spending cap, the CBF is working to implement financial fair play starting in 2026. The goal isn't to equalize investments among clubs, but to ensure that no one spends more than they earn: "The financial fair play model has a single, basic objective: to ensure that clubs pay their bills on time. It won't balance competition, nor will it make everyone spend the same amount."

The consultant explained that, in the long term, the model increases competitiveness, as it attracts players and sponsors to clubs with balanced finances. He cited the examples of Palmeiras and Flamengo, which excelled precisely after achieving financial sustainability .

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR FLAMENGO?

The CBF's statements bring relief to Flamengo, which already meets the parameters of financial fair play . The club has remained sustainable since the restructuring began in 2013, and therefore is not at risk of facing restrictions when the model is implemented.
