The impacts of mass layoffs and sudden changes at Flamengocontinue. After internal dissatisfaction, especially among professional football players, the club went back and reviewed some exits promoted in recent days. Among them the performance nutritionist and one of the physiotherapists.

The club decided to reinstate at least two employees who had been dismissed. The dismissals in the medical department generated criticism from both President Bap's allies and the athletes, who returned to the Ninho on Wednesday and found a completely different structure.

One of the who returned was Paulo Cavalcanti, known as Paulinho, performance nutritionist. He participates in trips and takes care of each person’s individual nutrition and supplements. His departure was greatly felt by the athletes and even by the commission, which was already counting on this work. He came back faster and was already at Wednesday's re-presentation. The new nutritionist, Silvia Ferreira, also saw the departure as a mistake.

Another professional was the physiotherapist Lanyian Neves. He was only called back on Wednesday to work Thursday. The technical committee was fundamental in his return. The two appeared in images released by the club of activities in recent days. There were 40 dismissals between base and professional. Few employees were left within the structure that already existed.José Luiz Runco was responsible for defining who stayed and who left the club.

Given the scenario, some people understood that there was a need to recalculate the route. Some more linked to the current administration understand that the first movement was more radical, but the process was not yet completely defined and, therefore, they returned to work.

The club I had not yet sent the documents for the dismissal procedures. Therefore, there was plenty of time for returns. Coach Filipe Luís also returned to Ninho only on Wednesday and found this scenario. He helped make some considerations and participated in conversations to define the situations.

Wesley's departure paved the way for Guillermo Varela to take over as Flamengo's starting right-back. Despite Emerson Royal's arrival, the new signing is still struggling to adapt and find his rhythm, giving the Uruguayan a chance to establish himself in the position.

Starting in the Copa do Brasil match against Atlético-MG, the full-back performed consistently both defensively and offensively , despite the team's penalty shootout. He didn't play in the previous match against Ceará in the Campeonato Brasileiro , giving way to Royal, who isn't yet fully fit. While the newly signed player seeks to establish himself, the veteran remains in the running for a starting spot.

CONTRACT RENEWAL

Besides competing on the field, Varela is also experiencing a significant moment off it. The full-back's contract with the club runs until the end of 2025 and, starting mid-next year , could sign a pre-contract with another team. However, his desire is to remain at Mengão.

Negotiations for the renewal began in March and have always been positive. According to information gathered by Gazeta do Urubu , the final details of the new contract have already been finalized. The official announcement is expected in the coming days, after adjustments to the player's requested amount.

VERSATILITY PLEASE THE COMMISSION

Throughout the season, Varela stood out for his versatility. Besides performing well at right back, he also played on the left when coach Filipe Luís needed to cover for absences . At specific moments, he even played as a defensive midfielder, a position for which he also received praise. This versatility was one of the factors that influenced the board to move forward with the renewal.
