After a meeting this Monday (5/2), directors of Botafogo and Flamengo approved and chose referee Yuri Elino Ferreira da Cruz to referee the classic on Wednesday (7), at 9:30 pm, at Maracanã, for the seventh round of the Carioca Championship-2024, announced Ferj (Football Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro).
Yuri Elino, referee of the new generation of the Federation and used to working in the Brasileirão Series A, refereed the second game of Botafogo in this State, in the reserve team's 2-0 victory over Bangu, at the Nilton Santos Stadium, on January 20th.
In last year's Carioca, however, Yuri Elino had a very bad performance in the defeat from Botafogo to Vasco at Maracanã, damaging Glorioso in a decisive way, failing to send off Galarza, scoring a non-existent penalty for Vasco (corrected by VAR) and pointing out a foul by Victor Sá (which was not there) which led to the first goal.< /p>CONTROVERSY IN FORTALEZA At 38 minutes into the first half, the big man collapsed to the ground after allegedly suffering a foul at the edge of the area. He ripped off his boot and insistently asked the referee to go and see the VAR's move, asking for the expulsion of Fortaleza's opponent.
However, the images show that Deyverson clearly simulated the fall, removing his foot and then throwing himself on the floor. When he saw that nothing was going to happen, the attacker got up and slowly left the boot, while playing with his boot.
The referee didn't like Deyvinho's stance at all and issued a yellow card, pulling out laughs from the number 16, who even took the opportunity to stall a little more before leaving the field.
In the match summary, Yuri Elino Ferreira da Cruz justified the application of the warning as follows. "For acting in a way that shows disrespect for the game," he wrote.
HOW WAS THIS DECISION MADE WITH FERJ?
According to “GE”, Ferj presented a list of four names for Bruno Spindel and André Mazzuco, representatives of Flamengo and Botafogo, respectively. The VAR for this Wednesday's classic will be Rodrigo Nunes de Sá.

Flamengo continues its preparations to face Juventude this Sunday (14), in the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship. The team's second-highest scorer this season, Pedro is expecting to start as a starter and could be one of the main weapons of Filipe Luís' team.
The number 9's record against the opponent excites the fans: in five matches against Juventude, Pedro has already scored six goals and provided one assist . In retrospect, the center forward also has the advantage, with three wins against the Gauchos and only two losses.
The season has been full of ups and downs for Pedro. After recovering from a serious knee injury in April, the striker faced criticism for his performance in training and even became embroiled in controversy off the field . However, he managed to turn things around and is now Flamengo 's second-highest scorer this year, with 12 goals and five assists.
Flamengo leads the Brazilian Championship with 47 points (14 wins, five draws, and just two losses) . Just behind them are Cruzeiro with 44 points and Palmeiras with 43. Juventude, their next opponent, is in a difficult situation: they are in 18th place with just 21 points.
With Pedro available, Flamengo returns to the field on Sunday (14), at 4 pm (Brasília time), to face Juventude, at Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, in Caxias do Sul, for the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. The Mais Querido seeks the first victory against Jaconero away from home since 1997 , when with an own goal from Rodrigo Silva, managed to come out victorious.
Unlike other opportunities, Mengão players were not used to their full potential and should be available against Juventude.
