FLAMENGO'S GREAT RIVAL HAS AN EYE ON THE 'HERO' OF THE TRI RUBRO-NEGRO IN LIBERTADORES

The 1987 Brazilian Championship remains one of the most controversial chapters in national football. However, after decades of legal disputes, it appears to have finally reached a historic outcome. On April 16, 2001, the battle in the Common Court came to an end with the final decision in favor of Sport Club do Recife.

Surprisingly, almost four decades later, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) , known for dealing with constitutional issues, decided to revisit the case. This was the second time that the STF voted on the matter, following a decision in 2017 that had already guaranteed the exclusive title to Sport.

The legal dispute over the 1987 title was long and complex, with four actions in the Common Court, two initiated by Sport and two by Flamengo. The action filed by the Rio de Janeiro club, which sought to take possession of the "Taça das Bolinhas" and influence the winner of 1987, began 12 years ago and went through the courts until reaching the STF.

At the state level, the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice denied Flamengo's request, stating that Sport was the only legitimate champion of the tournament. Upon arriving at the STF, Minister Dias Toffoli highlighted the need to re-examine the regulations of Brazilian championships between 1975 and 1992, the period in which the Bolinhas Cup was in dispute.

After six months of deliberations, the Second The STF panel formed a majority against Flamengo, confirming the Sport title. The rapporteur of the process, Toffoli, maintained his vote, followed by ministers Edson Fachin and André Mendonça. With the score 3-0, the case was decided even before the votes of Gilmar Mendes and Nunes Marques.

Without being registered in the qualifying phase Libertadores groups and unable to play for Flamengo in the Copa do Brasil, striker Carlinhos will only be listed by Tite again in June. This is because the CBF decided this week to stop the Brazilian Championship for two rounds. This competition is the only one at the moment in which the former Nova Iguaçu center forward is able to help Flamengo.

The reason for the suspension of the Brasileirão until the beginning of June is due to the tragedy caused by the rains in Rio Grande do South. Clubs such as Internacional, Grêmio and Juventude have not trained for days, as their respective stadiums are flooded. Flamengo was against the strike, but the vote ended up being defeated. The next game that Carlinhos will be able to play will be against Athletico-PR, on June 2nd.

Carlinhos will not be able to help Tite on the 22nd, against Amazonas in the Copa do Brasil, because he has already played the tournament with the Nova Iguaçu shirt. CBF regulations prevent an athlete from playing for two teams in the same year of the national knockout stage. In the Libertadores, the player will only be registered if Flamengo secures a place in the round of 16.

Since arrived at the club, Carlinhos entered the second half in the 2-1 victory against Atlético-GO, in Goiânia. Furthermore, he was a starter in the 0-0 draw against Palmeiras, at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo.
