Jorge Jesus and Tite are the two names that most caught the public's attention among the coaches who could lead Flamengo in 2024. With the departure of Jorge Sampaoli, Mengão's directors are considering the one who best fits the office. The problem is that the decision is not as easy as it appears to be. Even though the two coaches mentioned above have an impressive track record, they both have factors working against them.
Firstly, it is important to point out that, even though Fla has shown interest in the two coaches, there are other professionals who are being targeted for the position. Tite, on the other hand, is on a kind of sabbatical year (without working), as he did not receive any major offers for this 2023 season, after being removed from command of the Brazilian National Team at the end of 2022.
According to the Tite himself, he was prioritizing European clubs to work with, but, if nothing interesting comes into his hands, he is willing to return to national football at the start of next season.
As previously stated, there is internal resistance against the two coaches. According to 'O Globo Esportes', many members of Fla's board of directors do not want Jesus to return due to the way he handled the club's latest attempts to bring him in. Tite, in turn, has a very strong image in command of the national team, especially after the failure in the 2022 World Cup. Furthermore, the reservations that come from within the squad, namely Gabigol, must be highlighted.
Everything may become clearer after Sampaoli's concrete dismissal. The Argentine is already out of the 2024 season, but he could still be responsible for the group until the end of the year, we don't know. The truth is that, depending on the result of the next game, against São Paulo, he could end up with an even shorter stay at Flamengo than he expected.
Formal conversations, with whoever Flamengo's next coach will be, should only begin after this weekend. Sesc Flamengo began training with the full squad for the 2025/26 season of the Women's Superliga this Monday (15). The last athletes to show up were Helena Wenk, Laís, Lorena, Tainara and Masa Kirov, who were competing in international tournaments for the Brazilian and Serbian national teams.
During their time with their national teams, several players achieved significant achievements. Helena, Laís, Lorena, and Tainara won silver in the Nations League and bronze at the World Cup with the Brazilian national team. Tainara also shone, winning bronze at the U-21 World Cup . Masa Kirov represented Serbia in competitions such as the VNL, the U-21 World Cup, and the adult World Cup.
Other athletes also collected titles before the preseason. Julliana Granda and Adria won the Junior Pan American Championships with the U-23 team, while Camila Mesquita took bronze at the U-16 Universiade. These three athletes had already been training with the group in recent weeks.
Sesc Flamengo is undergoing a major overhaul and has introduced important reinforcements. Among the standouts are opposite Tainara, signed from Shanghai Bright (China), setter Giovana, American outside hitter Simone Lee, middle blocker Masa Kirov, and setter Vivian . Estudiantes announced this Monday (15) two confirmed absences for the match against Flamengo , valid for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores. The match is scheduled for this Thursday, at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro . The return game will be held seven days later, in Argentina.
The first player to be out is 33-year-old defender González Pírez , a River Plate youth product. The defender suffered a Grade 3 hamstring injury in his right thigh and is expected to be out for at least a month , ruling him out of both matches against the red-and-blacks.
Without further ado, coach Eduardo Domínguez confirmed that Santiago Núñez will replace González Pírez . The defender had already replaced his injured teammate in the match against River Plate and scored Estudiantes' only goal in the 2-1 defeat.
The club expects to maintain defensive consistency even without its regular starter . The Argentine coach has emphasized in previous interviews the importance of maintaining tactical discipline to balance the match against Flamengo at Maracanã.
In attack, 27-year-old Colombian Edwuin Cetré is also out of the match in Rio de Janeiro. The forward suffered a grade 1 muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg . He is expected to be available for the return leg on September 25th.
The La Plata club's representative reinforced Mengão's glaring economic difference, but remains confident of qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition.

This Thursday (18), Flamengo begins the dispute of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores against Estudiantes, at Maracanã. On the eve of the confrontation, the president and idol of the Argentine club, Juan Sebastián Verón, spoke about the expectations for the duel against Rubro-Negro.
During an institutional event in La Plata, Verón highlighted the financial difference between the teams , with Mengão being the team with the highest market value among the tournament participants, but recalled Estudiantes ' tradition of overcoming opponents considered favorites.
