Flamengo made official this Monday (30) the presentation of José Boto as new technical director of the club. In collective interview held at Ninho do Urubu, the Portuguese highlighted his commitment to the professionalization of red and black football and promised commitment maximumto meet the expectations of the Red-Black Nation.
“Professionalism is: Flamengo has to be the most important thing for everyone who works here. More important than family, than anything. This is professionalism. We have to do our best. There are 50 million people out there who make a lot of sacrifices to keep up with Flamengo. This has to be a privilege and it has to start with me and go to everyone”, he said, before finishing:
“We have to understand the situation and understand this feeling. This is professionalism. That's what fans can expect. They cover me first, then coaching committee, players and everyone who has to work 100% to May everything go well”, concluded José Boto.
First impressions at Ninho do Urubu
On Sunday (29), José Boto visited the Ninho do Urubu Training Center for the first time, where he was received by the president Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Bap). During a tour of the facilities, the director praised the club's structure and highlighted Flamengo's potential as a reference in football.
In addition, Boto took the opportunity to introduce himself to the players who are already at the CT starting preparations for the Campeonato Carioca.
Work behind the scenes and adapting to Flamengo
Even before arriving in Rio de Janeiro, José Boto was already working behind the scenes. In direct contact with members of the board and coach Filipe Luís, the Portuguese has learned about the new philosophy that is being implemented at the club.
The objective is to ensure that the Flamengo maintain its winning identity while moving towards a more technical and organized management, in line with the practices of top clubs in European football .

The current coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers (ENG), Portuguese Vítor Pereira, previously managed Corinthians and Flamengo in Brazil. Despite a strong campaign with the São Paulo club, the coach failed to win over the red-and-black fans and ended up having a stint marked by criticism . "(My time in Brazil was) a life experience. We're always changing. If I had a crystal ball to predict the future, I would change something in my life. I made the decisions I felt I had to do, the decisions I had to make, " said Vítor Pereira.
He then added: "And they're part of life and our growth. I think we grow a lot in the moments when we're under pressure, when we suffer. I've had beautiful moments in Brazil and moments of suffering . It's part of football," the coach concluded.
Vítor Pereira arrived at Flamengo at the beginning of 2023, after the board, then chaired by Rodolfo Landim, opted to leave Dorival Júnior , coach who won the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil in 2022. In charge of Rubro-Negro, Pereira lasted only three months.
In 18 matches, they recorded 10 wins, seven losses, and one draw, but suffered setbacks in every competition they competed in.
