Flamengo's backstage is still in turmoil after journalist Mauro Cézar Pereira revealed that the club would be willing to negotiate with striker Pedro . The information, which allegedly came from football director José Boto, fell like a bombshell internally and intensified tension at Gávea . Despite the turmoil, president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, guarantees that he is not considering firing the director.
“I never thought about changing the leadership of Flamengo’s football team,” declared Bap, in response to the crisis that took hold last week.
The revelation about the club's possible interest in selling Pedro caused discomfort among the squad, board of directors and advisors. The tension hit José Boto hard, who is going through his most difficult time since taking over the management of the red-black football team seven months ago . There are even rumors that the director himself is considering resigning.
Pedro's contract with Flamengo runs until December 2027. The last contract renegotiation took place in 2023, and since then there have been no new negotiations for renewal or adjustment of terms. The termination fee for foreign clubs is set at 100 million euros — around R$651 million at the current exchange rate.
