Through its official channels, Atlético de San Luis announced Domenéc Torrent as its new coach. The 61-year-old Spaniard has previous stints on the American continent with New York City (2018 and 2019) and Flamengo, in 2020.
Torrent's last club was Galatasaray (Turkey), where he stayed for just 19 matches in the 2021/2022 season. Namely, he arrives to replace the Brazilian Gustavo Leal, the name that took the team to the Apertura semifinal in the Mexican Championship.
After playing for lesser teams in Spain, Domenéc Torrent coached Girona before starting his story as Pep Guardiola's assistant coach. In this sense, it was ten years in a successful trajectory that passed through Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City with him being one of the trusted figures on the coaching staff.
Also for this reason, despite the turbulent trajectory in times of Flamengo, Guardiola's assessment, at the time, was that Domenéc had done a good job at the Brazilian club:
“I think Dome did a good job in terms of results for a new coach who didn't have time to train amid the pandemic, but the decision was made. The decision is made by Flamengo's board. I know it was an incredible experience for him, and he was and is very grateful for the opportunity to live in Brazil and compete in the Libertadores. Now, it is time to reach a final agreement with the club and wait for a new opportunity.”
