While things seem to be very positive for Flamengo in the main team, who are hoping to defeat Fluminense in the semi-final of the Campeonato Carioca, Crias do Ninho did not have such a good result. Mengão's under-16 team was competing in the Copa Olaria for the base squads, but ended up being eliminated in a big classic.

Vasco saved him from being runner-up for Flamengo in the Copa Olaria Renovado U16. Mais Querido's historical second place was already guaranteed in the final, on Thursday (14), and the winner of Mais Querido's clash against Fluminense awaited.

In the classic, Fluminense won by a slim score of 1-0, which was enough to move towards the decision. The Boys from the Nest say goodbye to the Olaria Cup. Champion in 2022, over Vasco himself, 4-3, the club falls in the semi-final after beat Serrano and Olaria, and draw with Botafogo.

Fluminense opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the second time, giving cold water to the Flamengo fans, who were trying to progress in the match. Wesley Natan, who had been providing the team with the best opportunities, produced and played for captain Peter to open the scoring.

Fluminense had a chance to expand in the next minute, arriving with Wesley Natan, but Dudu returned to be a hero. All that was needed was for the team's attack to do its part to avoid defeat and keep alive the chance of advancing to the final of the Copa Olaria Renovado. In the final minutes, the team tried to press, but the fight didn't work and Fluminense had the peace of mind to defend well and prevent the Rubro-Negro draw from happening. Flamengo lost 1-0 and said goodbye to the Copa Olaria.

In the world of football, the search for new talent is incessant, and Flamengo has invested heavily in the youth categories to discover future stars. Recently, the Rio club drew attention by incorporating young African promises into its youth teams. Two Nigerians, Shola and Hassan, are already part of the under-20 team, and now a Senegalese is emerging in the under-10.

According to Ge, Papa Diop, a Senegalese boy of just 10 years old, has stood out in the IberCup, a grassroots tournament held in Barra da Tijuca, Zona West of Rio de Janeiro. The young player, who measures an impressive 1.76m tall, arrived in Brazil in 2023 together with his father. They settled in Florianópolis, where Papa started playing on a social project team.

FLAMENGO BETTS ON YOUNG NIGERIANS

Papa's trajectory in Brazil He's new, but his football skills are already attracting attention. He began to emerge on the national scene when he played in the Santa Catarina IberLeague, in Florianópolis, last year. Even though he was only nine years old, he played in the under-12 category, facing boys three years older.

Abrão Chehadi, IberLeague licensee from Santa Catarina, was responsible for recommending Papa Diop to Flamengo. According to Chehadi, the age difference and the boy's skill caught the attention of the Rio club's technical observers. "The Pope was with us last year competing in the IberLeague of Santa Catarina, in Florianópolis. He was nine years old, but was playing in the category of three years over, in the under-12. For this reason, we recommended it to the technical observer of Flamengo present in the competition, which immediately brought him already approved for Rio de Janeiro. He is a promise for international football, as he is African and also has a European passport", said Chehadi.
