With defeat in Libertadores, Flamengo has 5 eliminations in competitions in 2023. In January, the team seemed to have a promising year ahead. After being champion of the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil in 2022, it was classified for the Supercopa and for the Club World Cup and for the Recopa.

In total, Flamengo had 7 chances to be champion in 2023. Now there are only two championships. See a summary of these championships below:

SUPERCOPA - This competition is held at the beginning of each year, in which the winner of the Copa do Brasil faces the leader of the 2022 Brazilian Championship. of the previous year's Copa do Brasil, Flamengo was able to face Palmeiras. However, Mengão failed to beat the São Paulo player. After the team won that title two years in a row: 2020 and 2021, it lost the 2023 game by 4-3. South America in the Club World Cup. However, Fla was unexpectedly eliminated in the semifinals against Al-Hilal (SAU) in February by 3-2. The team at least managed to stay in 3rd place in the competition after beating Al-Ahly (EGI) in a score of 4 to 2.

RECOPA SUL-AMERICANA - The Mais Querido, who is the current champion of the Copa Libertadores, faced Independiente del Valle (EQU), champion of the Copa Sudamericana for Cup Cup. Fla lost on penalties 5-4, after matching the Ecuadorian team in goals. In the first game, Independiente ended with a goal and, in the return game, the opposite happened. But the Brazilian defeat prevailed on penalties in the second meeting between the two.

CARIOCA CHAMPIONSHIP - After losing the Guanabara Cup, Fla was defeated by Fluminense in the state championship final. On the first day of April, Mais Querido opened the scoring of the final with 2 to 0. However, even being able to finish the return game with 2 goals difference, it was unable to hold the tricolor. The score ended with 4 to 1 for Fluminense.

COPA LIBERTADORES - After a promising campaign, Flamengo was eliminated from the continental competition this Thursday (10). Olimpia (PAR) was the opponent that defeated him in the round of 16, again, when Flamengo had an advantage in the second leg. Last Thursday (03) the two teams faced each other in Rio de Janeiro and the carioca prevailed with the result 1 to 0. However, the strength of the Paraguayans was greater and the score of the match eliminated Mengão with a sad 3 to 1.< /p>

COPA DO BRASIL - Flamengo is still playing in the competition. The carioca managed to beat Grêmio in the first game of the stage on the 27th of last month. The two teams meet again next week, on Thursday (17) to find out who will go to the final.

BRAZILIAN CHAMPIONSHIP - Flamengo's next game will take place this Sunday (13) for the Brasileirão. Fla is vice-leader of the competition and will face São Paulo. However, there is still a lot of work to be done, since Botafogo is in first place on the leaderboard with 13 points to spare.

"Respect is the feeling..." Flamengo has Tite's words echoed behind the scenes with the fans

In an interview given after the defeat of Flamengoto Peñarol, 1-0, coach Tite was direct in responding to the boos received by the fans. The statement, marked by a frank tone, exposed the coach's pragmatic vision in relation to demanding fans and the pressure for results. “I respect the fans’ feelings. Of course I feel that (the boos), I'm human”, said Tite, recognizing the fans' frustration in the face of the setback.

Tite's speech reveals that he understands the role of fans as a fundamental part in the context of a club, especially in a team of great expression like Flamengo. By mentioning that the boos affect him as a human being, the coach demonstrates empathy, but does not fail to highlight that the only way to reverse this situation is with achievements on the field. “It can only be reversed in one way”, pointed out the coach.

THE MISTAKE THAT COSTED EXTREMELY DEARLY

The response reflects the experience of Titein dealing with pressure who follows the command of great teams in Brazilian football. With successful spells at clubs such as Corinthians, Grêmio and the Brazilian national team itself, the coach has a track record that puts him in a position to understand, perhaps like few others, the relationship between performance on the field and fans' expectations. For him, this connection is clear: “Do you know how to win fans? Do you know how I won over the fans of the other clubs I played for? Win an important title”, he declared.

The phrase highlights the centrality of titles in football, especially in mass clubs like Flamengo. In Brazil, the culture of results is intense, and Tite recognizes that fans have a limited tolerance for negative results. Winning titles, for him, is the key to gaining the support of the fans, and anything other than that results in discontent: “If not, bye.”

This last part of Tite's speech summarizes the characteristic impatience of demanding fans like Flamengo. The coach makes it clear that, without obtaining relevant trophies, the relationship with the fans deteriorates quickly. The pressure is constant and is part of the daily life of those who take on the leadership of top teams. Tite seems, however, to be aware of this scenario and how it needs to be faced.

Tite's statement came after a delicate moment for Flamengo. The defeat to Peñarol, at home, in a group stage match of the Copa Libertadores, raised alarm bells for fans and the coaching staff. Flamengo had high expectations for the season, especially after major reinforcements and the arrival of Tite, a coach with wide recognition on the national and international scene.

The pressure on Flamengo is nothing new. The club, which has one of the biggest fans in the world, is known for its high expectations for titles. The expensive squad, made up of renowned players, also increases this demand. Each stumble is widely covered by the media and amplifies the dissatisfaction of part of the fans, who demand immediate results.

CAN IT GO BAD AT THE MOMENT?

The Copa Libertadores, in particular, has a important meaning for Flamengo and its fans. The continental tournament is seen as one of the club's main objectives each season. Any result other than victory can generate dissatisfaction and pressure on the technical committee, as occurred after the setback against Peñarol.

In this context, Tite's speech not only recognizes the fans' dissatisfaction, but also is realistic in relation to what is expected from a club like Flamengo. The demand for titles is part of the package when taking over a club of this size, and the coach seems to be aware of this when he points out that he will only be able to win the support of the fans with significant victories.

Last Sunday (15), Flamengo and Vasco drew 1-1, at Maracanã, in a match valid for the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship. The result, although frustrating for the red and blacks, who dominated much of the match, kept them eight points behind leader Botafogo.

Mais Querido entered the field imposing his pace and controlling the actions for most of the game. The red-black goal was scored by Gerson, who has been standing out in recent matches. However, CRF conceded the draw in the final minutes, which prevented a more significant approach to the classification table.

STRATEGY FOR THE FINAL STRAIGHT OF THE BRASILEIRÃO

Even with the difference in points for Botafogo, the technical committee, led by Tite, devised a strategy focused on keeping the team competitive until the last rounds. According to information from the Coluna do Fla portal, the objective is to arrive "alive" in the fight for the title in the final five rounds. Matheus Bachi, assistant coach, believes that the recent good performance against Bahia and Vasco could be an indication that the team is on the right track to fight for the top again.

< p>DECISIVE CONFRONTATION IN THE LIBERTADORES

While trying to get closer to the leaders in the Brasileirão, Mengão is already preparing for the next challenge in the Libertadores. The team will face Peñarol, at Maracanã, in the quarterfinals of the continental tournament. The Rio team is looking for a good result at home before traveling to Uruguay for the second leg next week.
