David Luiz is an extremely important piece for the Flamengo squad – whether with his attitudes on the field or off it. Although a reserve, the defender is a good option for Tite, and was even used extensively by the coach in Libertadores games.

Of the six games played by Flamengo in the Copa Libertadores da América, David Luiz started three opportunities: the two matches against Millonarios and the defeat against Bolívar, in La Paz. The fourth participation was also against the Bolivian team, but in the 4-0 defeat, at Maracanã.

With the four appearances for Flamengo in the Libertadores, David Luiz reached 10 games in the 2024 season – eight official games (out of 29 in total). The defender was only on the field for the continental tournament and the Campeonato Carioca, not being used by Tite in the Brasileirão and the Copa do Brasil.

The appearances for the Libertadores, in fact, yielded good numbers for David Luiz. The defender completed around 84% of passes per game, 94% of which were in his own field. He also won 78% of ball contests and 89% of aerial duels.

The "marriage" between Tite and Flamengo officially came to an end this Monday (30), with the announcement of the coach's resignation. Thus, the coach ends his time at Rubro-Negro after 70 games, with a 64.7% success rate, in addition to having won a state title and suffered a disappointing elimination in the Libertadores da América.

In addition to Tite, the entire technical committee is also leaving Flamengo. Among the professionals leaving the club are assistants Cleber Xavier, Matheus Bachi, César Sampaio and Vinícius Bergantin, physical trainer Fábio Mahseredjian and performance analyst Lucas Oliveira.

Two of the CRF's most experienced players are in the final stages of their contracts, with their future still uncertain. Gabigol, the club's idol, and defender David Luiz have contracts valid until December 31, 2024. The uncertainty about whether they will stay raises discussions behind the scenes, especially with the presidential elections approaching.

DAVID LUIZ AND THE POSSIBLE RENEWAL

The situation of defender David Luiz is delicate. Although his name is well evaluated within the current management, led by Rodolfo Landim, who supports Rodrigo Dunshee, the defender's continuity in the squad is not seen with the same enthusiasm by other wings of the club.

David Luiz had his contract was automatically renewed in January this year, after fulfilling the clause of playing in at least 20 matches, with 45 minutes on the field in each one. As a result, his contract was extended until the end of 2024. If Dunshee wins the elections, it is likely that Mengão will propose a renewal for another year.

The agreement, however, must be signed without an increase salary and without the payment of gloves. David Luiz has already expressed interest in remaining at the club, but the final decision should only take place after the presidential election.

GABIGOL'S FUTURE ALSO UNCERTAINGabigol, one of the main names of the CRF in recent years, also has a contract until December. So far, there is no official information about negotiations for its renewal, which keeps fans apprehensive.

ELECTIONS WILL BE DECISIVE

The Mais Querido elections, scheduled for December, will be fundamental in defining the future of the two athletes. Depending on who takes charge, priorities and decisions about hiring and renewals may change.
