Flamengo was far from delivering eye-catching basketball, but in practice, they advanced. The hard-fought victory against Corinthians at the Neo Química Arena in São Paulo closed the quarterfinals and secured Sergio Oveja's team among the four best in the competition. The game had a playoff feel from start to finish. Flamengo even started better, but suffered a sudden drop in performance in the third quarter. Corinthians, encouraged by the fans, grew and turned the score around.

The final stretch was nerve-racking. With the ball in his hands, Alexey took responsibility. In an individual play, he infiltrated, feinted and scored the winning basket, just a few seconds before the end. It was the breathing space the team needed to seal its spot. In the next attack, Corinthians had the chance to tie or win, but Flamengo's defense showed up at the right moment. Ruan Miranda rose at the right time and made a decisive block, ending the series 3-2 for Rubro-Negro.

OVEJA BLINDA CAST

In the post-match interview with ESPN, Argentine coach Sergio Oveja made a point of praising Corinthians' campaign and acknowledged the difficulty of qualifying. According to him, the suffering in the quarterfinals will serve as fuel for the next challenges of the Mais Querido in its great treasure.

“Corinthians is a very good team, with smart players, with courage. A good coach. The truth is that it was very difficult. I think this series prepared us to play a very tough game in the semifinals, and, if possible, in the final as well,” said Oveja.

A MUCH STRONGER CAST

Alexey's performance was given special attention by the coach. Oveja did not hide his admiration for the point guard, praising not only his technical performance, but also his attitude in decisive moments. “ He's a guy who doesn't just play well. He's brave, man . He makes decisions in hot moments. He's our pride. Corinthians defended him very well. That's why he's brave. Because you often fall. He kept going, kept going, and was the highlight of today's game,” added the coach.

The victory puts Flamengo in another NBB semifinal, maintaining its recent tradition of leading the tournament. The opponent in the next round has yet to be defined, but the Rio de Janeiro team is already preparing to face a new level of demand. The red-and-black squad will have little time to catch its breath. The coaching staff must work to adjust details, especially in emotional control and offensive consistency, which began to waver again during the series against Corinthians.

In the initial phase, the matches are played in a single round.

The group leaders advance to the title game , while the second-place teams play for 5th through 8th place. Third-place teams compete for 9th through 12th place. This means each team is guaranteed at least four matches, regardless of their final standings.

COACH HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TOURNAMENT

The club's coach, Sérgio Hernandez , emphasized the importance of the competition in the preparation process for the New Basketball Brazil. " It's a great opportunity for us to compete in this competition . Each team is guaranteed four games, regardless of their position in the first phase. And that's perfect; it's ideal for the stage of preparation we're in," the coach stated.

He also emphasized that the competition contributes to the team's collective development: " We're coming off an extremely tough start to the season, like the Club World Cup . Now we're entering a reality that's a little more similar to what we'll experience in the NBB. This will allow us to continue maturing as a team, both through the games we'll play, the training sessions we'll have there, and the week-long experience together. All of this will contribute significantly to the team's growth," he added.
