Tondela, a club that currently competes in the second division of Portuguese football and which Flamengo tried to buy in October 2021, is close to being sold to a German fund. According to the Portuguese newspaper Record, the German group that is close to acquiring the team from the city of Tondela has no previous connection with football.

Also according to the vehicle, Nuno Patrão and Pedro Roxo, businessmen acquaintances in Portuguese football, are helping in the negotiations. In Germany, Carlos Leal, former director of Arminia Bielefeld, is one of the businessmen who knows German football in depth and is also helping with business between the Portuguese club and the German fund.

In October 2021, Flamengo was interested in acquiring Tondela and expanding its brand worldwide. However, the club's relegation in the Portuguese Championship meant that the idea was scrapped.

The plan was for Flamengo's brand to be in the top six positions in the Portuguese Championship in three years. At the time, the board was talking to investors who would make a contribution of 50 million euros to purchase Tondela. For the future, the idea is for the red-black team to become a conglomerate of associations around the world.

Flamengo's latest transfer window had an impact on the European market . In an interview with UOL, football director José Boto stated that the arrivals of Saúl, Samuel Lino, Emerson Royal, and Carrascal increased the club's visibility among players playing outside of Brazil .

José Boto on players offering themselves to Flamengo: "There were important and well-known players who showed interest in coming"

"In terms of the market, this window has a bit of an impact in Europe, opening Flamengo 's doors even further to European players. They're seeing this type of player coming here and are more interested in coming," Boto stated.

WANTED BY STARS

The Portuguese director also revealed that prominent European football players had offered to play for Flamengo , but the club chose not to move forward with negotiations . According to him, there was no need for reinforcements in those positions.

"I won't name names, but after these signings, some important and well-known players showed interest in coming . These were positions we didn't need, and I've also said that sometimes, too much water kills the plant. We didn't want to turn it into something that could harm the team," he added.
