The quarterfinal stage of the Copa do Brasil has already begun. This Tuesday (04) Grêmio and Bahia played in Salvador ending in a draw. Both teams scored a goal and will go into the next game, in Porto Alegre, balanced. The winner of the match, which takes place on Wednesday of next week (12), will be able to face Flamengo in the semifinal of the competition. Mengão, first, needs to defeat Atlético-PR. The first stage to be overcome takes place this Wednesday (05).
The game between Bahia and Grêmio started calmly, but two minutes into the second half, the Bahian team already managed to gain an advantage. Everaldo took advantage of a series of failures committed by Renato Gaúcho's defense and managed to score the goal with mastery. The team from Rio Grande do Sul did not let itself be beaten and managed to draw even in the struggle in addition (at 50 minutes).
The former coach of Flamengo, Renato Gaúcho, said in a press conference that the result of the game does not represent the best potential of Grêmio. The team made mistakes and was without its main striker: Suárez. The Uruguayan player couldn't even finish the warm-up due to intense pain in his right knee. He did not enter the field once during the match.
Suárez had collaborated with the team on Saturday (01) when they faced Bahia again for the Brasileirão. “Saturday's game was just as important as today's. We were second in the Brazilian Championship”, explains Renato Gaúcho, adding that the positive result does not depend on Suárez.
After the last round, Flamengo is exactly one position below Grêmio in the Brazilian Championship table. With the third position of the championship, the next game will be against Palmeiras on Sunday (09). But first, as already mentioned, Flamengo faces Atlético-PR for the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday (05).
The teams play the first game of the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."

Red-and-black striker is the target of speculation in the transfer market

This Monday (16), rumors emerged involving Bahia's interest in signing Gabigol, striker from Mais Querido. According to the channel Paparazzo Rubro-Negro, Tricolor de Aço would have entered the dispute for Gabigol, who has a contract with Flamengojust until December this year. In addition to Bahia, clubs such as Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Grêmio, Palmeiras and Santos would also be keeping an eye on the player.
Despite the speculation, the Bahia board was quick to deny any ongoing negotiations to count on the shirt 99 from Mengão. According to the club's leadership, there is no intention of repeating an operation similar to that carried out with Everton Ribeiro.
As soon as news of the supposed interest began to circulate, Bahia tried to clarify the situation. In a statement, the club's senior management stated that there are no negotiations to sign Gabigol for next season. The information of possible interest, therefore, was directly denied by Tricolor's directors.
Even so, the attacker remains one of the most targeted names in the transfer market for 2025, as he is in the final stretch of contract with Flamengoand you can now sign a pre-contract with any other team.
With Bahia's denial, Corinthians remains the main favorite to sign Gabigol from next year. The possibility of the red-black striker wearing the Timão shirt gains strength, especially after coach Tite appointed Gabigol as the third option for Mengão's attacking command, behind Pedro and Bruno Henrique.
