This Wednesday (28), Bahia hosts Flamengo in a decisive clash for the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa do Brasil. The match, which takes place at 9:30 pm at Arena Fonte Nova, marks an important challenge for the coach Rogério Ceni, who seeks to break a significant taboo against Rubro-Negro.

Rogério Ceni, who began his career as a coach in 2017, never managed to beat Flamengo. Over the course of 12 clashes against the Rio team, commanding teams such as São Paulo, Fortaleza, Cruzeiro and Bahia itself, Ceni accumulated 12 defeats.

This unfavorable record includes both Brazilian Championship games and other competitions. The coach, who spent time at Flamengo between 2020 and 2021, won the 2020 Brazilian Championship title, but remains without victories when facing his former club.

RETURN MATCH AT MARACANÃ

The second game of this quarter-final clash will be held at Maracanã, on September 12th, at 9:45 pm. Until then, the two teams will still have commitments to the Brazilian Championship, where they continue to compete for positions at the top of the table. Bahia occupies 6th place with 39 points, while Flamengo is in 4th place, with 44 points.

CHALLENGES IN THE BRAZILIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

After the Copa do Brasil game, Bahia and Flamengo will turn their attention to the Brasileirão. Next weekend, Bahia will face Bragantino, while Flamengo will play against Corinthians. Both matches will be important for the teams to remain at the top of the table.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. Check it out:

"The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."
