Flamengo 's 2-0 victory over Palmeiras last Sunday (25), in the Brazilian Championship , had a decisive name in the first half: Agustín Rossi . The Argentine goalkeeper saved a penalty taken by Piquerez , keeping the score at zero and being fundamental to the red-black triumph at Allianz Parque.
With his defense, Rossi has achieved an impressive feat. Out of ten penalties suffered by Flamengo since he arrived at the club, the goalkeeper has saved four , seen one hit the post and conceded five goals . The curious detail is the consistency of his choice: in 90% of the cases , he jumped to the right side — and the strategy has been paying off. Of the last five penalties faced, the Argentine has saved four.
According to a survey by Gato Mestre, Rossi has the best penalty save rate among all goalkeepers in Brazilian football who have faced at least ten penalties since 2015. The success rate is impressive not only for the number of saves, but also for the game reading and behavior pattern adopted by the goalkeeper.
The comparison with a negative history experienced by another former red-black player — criticized for insisting on always jumping to the same side — only reinforces the merit of Rossi , who, even following a pattern, has been effective.
This behavior was already being observed when Rossi played for Boca Juniors . Against Brazilian clubs, the Argentine faced 15 penalties and jumped to the right on 9 occasions (60%). In total, he conceded 10 goals and saved three, two of which were right in the right corner.
Check out the history of penalties faced by Rossi wearing the Flamengo shirt:

In attack, Colombian Edwuin Cetré, 27, is also out. He suffered a grade 1 muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg and will not play at the Maracanã . However, he is expected to recover for the return leg, scheduled for September 25th in La Plata.

Flamengo and Estudiantes face each other this Thursday (17), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores. Fans of both teams have sold out their tickets and promise a huge party in the stands , worthy of a decisive clash in the main club tournament in South America.
Flamengo is expected to break the attendance record in Brazil in 2025. The current record is held by the Rio de Janeiro club itself, which drew 69,447 fans in its draw with Grêmio in the Brazilian Championship . With high demand for tickets and the atmosphere of the final, the number is projected to be surpassed this Thursday.
Maracanã has a capacity of approximately 78,000 fans, making it the largest stadium in the country. However, due to mandatory separation between fans, not all seats are available . Even so, Flamengo usually reaches nearly 70,000 attendance when it reaches its record attendance, which is expected for this match.
Rubro-Negro reached the quarterfinals after eliminating Internacional , while Estudiantes advanced by defeating Cerro Porteño. The semifinal spot will be decided in the second leg in Argentina next week.
