Did you know that? The stadium where Flamengo will play in the World Cup already had cells to hold fans

Formerly called Veterans Stadium, it was rebuilt and modernized in the early 2000s, adapting to new arena models.

Flamengo's games in the group stage of the Club World Cup will be played in stadiums built for American football and which have curious stories, ranging from a "good 7-1" for Brazil to even a period when there was a prison inside the venue.
BELIEVE ME, CELLS INSIDE THE STADIUM

Two of the three games for the Red-Blacks will take place at Lincoln Financial Field, the stadium of the Philadelphia Eagles, a traditional NFL team: the debut, against Espérance , from Tunisia, on the 16th; and against Chelsea, on the 20th. Previously called Veterans Stadium, it was rebuilt and modernized in the early 2000s.

The great curiosity of its old version was that it had a jail. It was known as "Eagles Court" and had four cells that were used to lock up aggressive or drunk fans during games.

The Veterans Stadium police station has become the stuff of folklore , with up to 100 people arrested per game in the 1990s. Its most famous symbol was a sign with the "10 Commandments of a Fan," including one that read, "Thou shalt not throw beer at thy neighbor's head." Today, the sign is displayed in the modernized stadium as a piece of historical history.

Now known as Lincoln Financial Field, Eagles Court no longer exists. It has been replaced by an Integrated Command Center staffed by security, police, and paramedics. Violent individuals or those in serious violation of the rules are held in secure rooms, without bars or cells, until the city police arrive. The priority is to expel violators from the stadium, not to keep them locked up.

The current capacity of Lincoln Financial Field is around 69,000 people . However, for the Club World Cup, it had to undergo adaptations , removing some rows of seats to adapt to the standard field size required by FIFA.

The lawn was also changed, and will now be a hybrid with 95% natural grass and 5% synthetic grass. There are more than 170 luxury suites. The venue also has VIP areas, such as the Eagle One Club and the Founders Club , with gourmet services and privileged views.

7X1 FOR ORLANDO

Fla ends its participation in the group stage on the 24th, against Los Angeles FC, at Camping World Stadium , in Orlando. It is a multipurpose stadium known for hosting various events such as college football, soccer, concerts and wrestling matches.

It was also the scene of a "good 7-1" for the Brazilian national team , when it was still called the "Citrus Bowl". The event took place in 2016, two years after the traumatic result for Germany in the 2014 World Cup.

The game in question was much less glamorous: against Haiti, for the Copa América Centenário, when Brazil beat the Haitians 7-1 with a hat trick from Philippe Coutinho , two from Renato Augusto, one from Gabigol and another from Lucas Lima.

Its current capacity is around 60,000 people, expandable to 65,000 for special events. It hosted five games in the 1994 World Cup.

Camping World Stadium has 82 corporate suites and eight luxury suites . In addition, there are also VIP areas such as the "Orlando City SC Club", for football team matches; and the "Champions Club", which is a lounge with buffet and open bar.

Flamengo made four signings in the last transfer window for Filipe Luís' squad: Saúl Ñíguez, Samuel Lino, Emerson Royal, and Jorge Carrascal . After the transfer window closed, journalist André Rizek of Grupo Globo assessed the signings and noted that some players still need to adapt to meet the Rio de Janeiro club's expectations.

" I think the technical aspects of Jorginho, Saúl, and Samu Lino are impressive. I think Emerson Royal and Carrascal are a step below, and they're options to rotate the squad ," Rizek commented in a video posted on social media. According to him, while some new signings are already showing satisfactory performance, others are still adapting to the Mais Querido's style and rhythm.

INVESTMENTS MADE BY FLAMENGO

With Wesley's departure to Roma (ITA), Mengão went to the transfer market and signed Emerson Royal, formerly of Milan, for nine million euros (approximately R$57 million). Jorge Carrascal was acquired from Dynamo Moscow (RUS) for 12 million euros (approximately R$76 million). In total, the Rio de Janeiro club invested R$133 million in these two signings alone.

So far, Emerson Royal has played in five matches for Flamengo, without scoring or providing assists. Jorge Carrascal continues to adapt to the club 's routine and has yet to start, having appeared in three games so far.

FLAMENGO'S NEXT CHALLENGE

Flamengo's next match will be on September 14th, against Juventude, at 4 pm, at Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, in the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship. New signings Emerson Royal and Jorge Carrascal will be available to coach Filipe Luís for the match.
