Filipe Luís was officially presented this Tuesday (1) as the new coach of Flamengo. In his first press conference, the former player spoke about his transition from athlete to coach and highlighted the influence of Diego Simeone, his former commander at Atlético de Madrid, as one of the people most responsible for his decision to pursue a career as a coach. .
Filipe Luís worked for many years under Simeone at Atlético de Madrid, and the relationship between the two remained close even after the end of the partnership at the Spanish club. On the eve of yet another Atlético commitment in the Champions League, the Argentine coach sent a message to his former pupil, admitting that, initially, he did not believe that Filipe would pursue a coaching career.
"When he arrived, I didn't think he would be a coach, but over time, his passion for tactical issues became evident. He has a great opportunity now and he will take advantage of it with joy. ", said Simeone.
ASKED ABOUT 'CHOLISM'
When asked if Filipe Luís would adopt the style of play known as 'Cholismo', in reference to Simeone's combative and tactical style, the Argentine coach avoided labels and stated that Filipe, throughout his career, worked with different coaches, each with different characteristics.
