Flamengo drew 1-1 with Cuiabá on Saturday night (6), at Maracanã, in a match valid for the 15th round of the Brazilian Championship. Despite the unexpected result, Rubro-Negro secured the lead in the competition until the end of the round. After the game, coach Tite analyzed the team's performance.
Flamengo was behind on the scoreboard, but pressed throughout the game, managing to equalize with a goal from Pedro. However, the team was unable to break through Cuiabá's defensive block to turn the match around. A highlight of the second half was the replacement of Werton and Lorran with Carlinhos and Matheus Gonçalves, something that Tite explained after the game.
TITE'S EXPLANATION< /b>
Coach Tite highlighted the performance of goalkeeper Walter, from Cuiabá, as fundamental to the draw. “Walter had a great game, I think there were 11 shots on goal. In a volume created, with a series of adversities, I will not talk about the calendar, I have already said it and I do not want to be repetitive. We had the search until the final moment. The game presented itself, we tried to use two pivots, we replaced the boys to create the alternatives we needed and here is the support for the boys, Lorran and Werton”, analyzed Tite.
GAME STRATEGY
Tite sought greater coordination in midfield, using Gerson and Lorran as play creators. “I wanted to work on the projection. I looked for an articulating player to give more volume. As I have Lorran together with Gerson, who are two articulators, they look for each other, the idea was to have them. Then, we put together a strategy to pierce their middle and lower block (Cuiabá). We had to make the movement in the last third”, he explained.
DIFFICULTIES FACED
Tite also highlighted the difficulties faced due to the tight schedule, which hampered the team's preparation. “It’s difficult not to talk about the calendar issue. We analyze the opponent and there is no way to train for this game. You put it on video and try to make sure things arrive on time. It was the third game in a row in less than 72 hours. We weren't able to maintain the regularity to put ourselves in front of the goal, to have a cleaner finish. We have to recognize that, on the other side, Walter was on a bright day”, added the coach.
NEXT CHALLENGES
With the draw, Flamengo reached 31 points, maintaining the isolated lead of the Brasileirão. Next Thursday (10), the team returns to Maracanã to face Fortaleza, at 8pm. Cuiabá, in turn, reached 14 points and occupies 15th place in the table.
The Brazilian National Team coach praised the performance of the red-black team and other Brazilian teams at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti, the Brazilian national team coach, was in the United States during the Club World Cup and praised the performance of the Brazilian teams in the tournament. According to the renowned Italian coach, the results achieved by Fluminense, Botafogo, Flamengo, and Palmeiras demonstrate that Brazilian football remains competitive on the international stage.
Ancelotti on the Brazilians in the World Cup: “Fluminense had a great campaign, reaching the semifinals, and Botafogo beat PSG, but Palmeiras and Flamengo also proved they can compete with the best European teams.”
The national team manager's praise highlights the growing presence and competitiveness of Brazilian clubs in intercontinental competitions. Fluminense's campaign, which finished in the top four of the championship, and Botafogo's unexpected victory against Paris Saint-Germain drew attention. On the other hand, Palmeiras and Flamengo , although they didn't reach the final stages, showed resilience in direct confrontations against major teams from the Old Continent.
Ancelotti's analysis comes at a strategic time, as the coach is preparing the national team for upcoming international challenges and focusing on developing the players currently playing in Brazil. The team's presence at the tournament also highlighted the national team's ongoing monitoring of the players playing in Brazil.
Flamengo's participation was marked by a very positive group stage combined with a victory over Chelsea, which secured international respect. However, the elimination to Bayern Munich highlighted some of the team's defensive vulnerabilities in high-level matches.
Although the departure was early, the performance was respectable, and the club left the Club World Cup with prestige and international visibility , representing Brazilian football in an exemplary way in an increasingly competitive global scenario.
Pedro will make a decision about his future at Flamengo next week. A meeting between the striker, his staff, and the Flamengo board will take place.

Pedro's situation at Flamengo has taken on new chapters in recent days. After being left out of the squad against São Paulo, the striker became a hot topic due to public criticism from the team's coach, Filipe Luís, who cited poor training performance as the reason for his exclusion.
The statement caused discomfort among the player's representatives, who are now considering a possible exit from the club. Behind the scenes, a member of Flamengo's football department even stated that they would accept a €15 million (R$97.5 million) offer to negotiate the player.
Evolution of Pedro's market value
Knee surgery and strain with the coaching staff caused Pedro's market value to stagnate after peaking in 2024. Now, even though he is valued at over R$140 million, Flamengo is considering selling him for much less than the estimated value.
It remains to be seen what the next step in the striker's career will be, and whether any club will be willing to pay the Rubro-Negro's desired price.
