After being eliminated in the Libertadores, Flamengo returns to the field this Sunday (29) to face Athletico-PR, in the 28th round of the Brasileirão. The team led by Tite runs the risk of achieving its worst sequence of results in eight years, if it does not achieve a victory against the team from Paraná.

If it does not get the three points, Flamengo will reach five consecutive games without winning, something that hasn't happened since 2016, when the team was coached by Muricy Ramalho. That year, Flamengo faced a series of six games without victory, with defeats to Confiança-SE, Athletico-PR and Volta Redonda, as well as draws with Fluminense, Vasco and Botafogo.

Check out the Flamengo's last four games in 2024:

Flamengo 1 x 1 Vasco – Brasileirão

Flamengo 0 x 1 Peñarol (URU) – Libertadores quarter-finals (first leg)

Grêmio 3 x 2 Flamengo – Brasileirão

Peñarol (URU) 0 x 0 Flamengo – Libertadores quarter-finals (return)

Situation in season

Tite's Flamengo's phase is complicated. After being eliminated in the Libertadores, the team's focus is divided between the Copa do Brasil and the Brasileirão. In the knockout competition, Rubro-Negro will face Corinthians on October 2nd and 17th, seeking a place in the grand final. In the Brasileirão, Flamengo occupies fourth place, with 45 points, 11 behind the leader, Botafogo.

Almost signed by Flamengo at the beginning of the year, Evander, formerly of Vasco and currently at Portland Timbers (USA), is enjoying success in Major League Soccer (MLS). The midfielder once again recalled Mais Querido's interest and praised the team, calling it the "greatest in America."

"I was very happy to be remembered, especially by a club like Flamengo, one of the biggest from Brazil and America. There's that whole thing about being at Vasco's base, but I wouldn't be the first or the last to leave one rival for the other. I think it was a career expectation, the dream of playing for the national team, I played. at the base, and that still affects me. The desire to play for a big European club. We know how difficult it is to be in the MLS and leave here for a big European team, or a big Brazilian team," said Evander.

"Now, there's Luiz Araújo, one of Flamengo's highlights, and Almada, who was bought for I don't know how many millions. Of course, there's still a fear of how they see MLS, but there are a lot of players who stand out. When you experience the league, you know that it's not that easy to stand out. I think it's more in the player's ability than in the league, if there's a player who can stand out, it's worth it. It's worth opening your eyes", he commented.

EVANDER SURPASSES MESSI

MLS has Lionel Messi, but the one who stands out is Evander. The midfielder is above the Argentine in the ranking of goal participation in the league. The Brazilian is first, with 33 (15 goals and 18 assists). Already in second place is Luciano Acosta, from Cincinnati. Messi appears in third, with 29 (14 goals and 15 passes).

EVANDER BY DE LA CRUZ

As they were unable to sign Evander, Flamengo opted for bringing in Nico De La Cruz and Carlos Alcaraz. Thus, midfielders are one of Mais Querido's highlights this current season.
