The legacy of Mamonas Assassinas lives on in the stands of Brazilian football. Fans of Internacional and Mais Querido adapted the iconic song Pelados em Santos to support their teams in the stadiums. Decades after the tragic accident that killed the band, the songs continue to be sung by thousands of voices at important games.
The first adaptation of the song was made by Internacional fans. In 2008, members of the organized fan group Guarda Popular created the version "Minha Camisa Vermelha", which quickly became popular among the Colorado fans. The song began to be played during decisive matches and became a symbol of passion for the club.
RUBRO-NEGROS ADOPTED THE SONG THE FOLLOWING YEAR
Inspired by the red adaptation and the friendship between the fans, the red-blacks created, in 2009, the Mengão do Meu Coração version. The song was part of the historic campaign for the Brazilian title that year, won with a cast led by Adriano Imperador and Petkovic. Since then, the song has been present in the stadiums, being one of the favorites of Flamengo fans.
Vocalist DINHO'S FAMILY IS MOVED BY THE IMPACT OF HIS MUSIC IN STADIUMS
For Jorge Santana, Dinho's cousin and CEO of the Mamonas Assassinas brand, seeing the band's songs immortalized in football is a source of great pride. "Art transcends. The legacy ends up being immortalized by art. Everything they did was worth it. They believed in their dreams. Having football fans singing versions of Mamonas' songs makes us very proud. It is very gratifying to see that they didn't die," he said.
MAMONAS SONGS REMAIN ALIVE IN POPULAR CULTURE AND IN BRAZILIAN FOOTBALL
Even after almost three decades since the tragedy that cut short the band's career, the impact of Mamonas Assassinas remains strong in Brazilian culture. In football, fans from different clubs keep the band's irreverence alive, ensuring that their songs are remembered with every shout of support in the stadiums.

Estudiantes is already in Rio de Janeiro for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals against Flamengo , scheduled for Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. The Argentine team trained at Fluminense's facilities , preparing for the decisive duel.
Coach Eduardo Domínguez tested a more conservative formation, including an extra defensive midfielder in midfield, as a strategy to contain Flamengo's attacks. According to Radio Província 1270 in La Plata, the change could result in only one striker on the field , demonstrating a more solid defensive posture.
Estudiantes ' likely lineup for the clash includes: Muslera; Gómez, Nuñez, Rodríguez, Arzamendia; Ascacibar, Piovi, Amondarain, Medina, Tiago Palacios; Carrillo.
It's not yet clear whether Piovi will play as an extra midfielder or be replaced by Castro . Amondarain, despite being an attacking midfielder, could drop back and act as a third midfielder, depending on Domínguez's strategy in recent training sessions.
With the prospect of a more closed Argentine team, Flamengo, under the command of Filipe Luís, will have to work hard to break down Estudiantes' defense and seek a positive result in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals.
