Flamengo's debut in the Brazilian Championship ended in a bitter draw against Internacional. Despite dominating most of the game, the team wasted several chances and was unable to come away with the victory. The Mais Querido also had important absences, such as Gerson and Arrascaeta, and had to find alternatives to fill the absence of the midfielders. After the match, the coach analyzed the team's performance and emphasized that the squad has options to deal with occasional absences.
— I am well served. I had countless possibilities. It is true that the FIFA deadline made things complicated. Plata arrived with two 90-minute games and two trips. Gerson and Arrascaeta were missed, as were Pedro and Viña. But whoever came in had my full confidence for a great game. It is true that they had not played together before, some were in different roles, but they performed well — he highlighted.
The coach also praised the opponent and reinforced that the team managed to impose the rhythm.
— Inter didn't come to draw, they came to win, to take the ball away from Flamengo and be the protagonist, but they couldn't. We managed to block Inter in a low block, that's Flamengo's merit. Regarding the creation, there are other ways to score. Today it wasn't a problem, because we created chances — he concluded.
FLAMENGO FINISHES 19 TIMES, BUT HAS A LOW PERFORMANCE IN FINISHINGS
Throughout the game, Flamengo had 19 shots, but only five were on target. Even with the opponent's well-positioned defense, the team managed to create good opportunities inside the area, with 13 shots close to the goal. However, poor aim prevented a better result. Long-range shots could have been an alternative to break through the barrier set up by Internacional.
NEXT CHALLENGE WILL BE FOR THE LIBERTADORES, AGAINST DEPORTIVO TÁCHIRA
The focus now turns to the debut in the Libertadores. Mengão faces Deportivo Táchira, in Venezuela, next Thursday, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time). Group C also includes LDU, from Ecuador, and Central Córdoba, from Argentina.
